The Effects Of Collaboration On Harmonization In College Group Piano, Yining Li
The Effects Of Collaboration On Harmonization In College Group Piano, Yining Li
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Current university-level group piano classes may not provide adequate training on functional keyboard skills needed by non-keyboard professional musicians. Innovative teaching strategies involving collaborative learning have been successfully demonstrated in other areas of education (e.g., math, science, and English) and might efficiently improve students’ functional keyboard skills. This dissertation examined the effects of collaborative learning on harmonization in college group piano classes. This study explored the differences between performance outcomes among students who collaborated to learn harmonization, as opposed to those who worked alone. It also investigated how collaborative work influenced students’ attitudes and confidence toward learning and performing harmonization. …

The Effects Of Peer Teaching On Undergraduate Music Majors' Achievement And Attitude Toward Sight-Reading In The Group Piano Setting, Nancy Elizabeth Baker
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The purposes of this study were: (1) to investigate the effects of peer teaching on students’ achievement in sight-reading at the piano, and (2) to determine whether peer teaching positively affected students’ attitude toward sight-reading at the piano. Participants were undergraduate music majors (N = 85) enrolled in the second or fourth semester of a four-semester group piano sequence. Participants completed a pretest and a posttest that consisted of a video-taped sight-reading performance and an attitudinal questionnaire. Control and experimental groups comprised the treatment groups for each level. Group Piano IV and Group Piano II participants in the experimental group …
The Effects Of Cross-Age Mentoring In An Online Collaborative Environment, Gail Lorraine Johnson
The Effects Of Cross-Age Mentoring In An Online Collaborative Environment, Gail Lorraine Johnson
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This mixed method research was designed to examine the effects of cross-age mentoring in an inter-institutional online learning community. The research questions focused on the impact of mentoring on high school students’ confidence in their information seeking skills, perceptions of their information seeking standards, and the application of these standards to an information seeking task. Also of interest was the dialogic interaction between the students at the two sites, the impact of the facilitator on the process, and the university students’ perceptions about their experience. The participants included 26 students (mentees) enrolled in an American history class at a rural …
An Analysis Of Student Collaboration And Task Completion Through Project Based Learning In A Web-Supported Undergraduate Course, William Randall Thomas
An Analysis Of Student Collaboration And Task Completion Through Project Based Learning In A Web-Supported Undergraduate Course, William Randall Thomas
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Over the past decade calls for reform in higher education have emphasized that education should become less instructor centered with students taking a more active role in their learning. Moreover, there is increasing pressure on university professors to implement student centered teaching strategies that negate time and place restrictions of the classroom by integrating technologies that support the active engagement of students through Internet based applications. The goal of this study was to gain insights into the interactions that occur in online communications in a project-based learning activity. Twenty-one undergraduate students participated in the study while completing a component of …
