Live To Think, Death By Tech: A Philosophical Analysis Against Modern Technological Society, Jacob Jimenez

This thesis first argues that modern technological society (MTS) is moral-ethically harmful to its inhabitants. Through an analysis of works on the subject, two philosophical harms having to do with Being are presented. It is then shown how these harms are consequences of some of MTS’ most prominent technologies and their methods of implementation. Since these harms are moral-ethically dangerous, and the technologies that best perpetuate them are integral to the identity of MTS, the thesis finds MTS to be moral-ethically dangerous as well. However, when it comes to Latinos in STEM, they represent only 8 percent of all STEM workers. This study aimed to determine whether time spent on technology impacts the developing auditory or visual memory in school-aged children. A survey was completed with the child participants to acquire a catalog of time spent on both technological devices and non-technological activities. Tests included a visual and auditory memory assessment adapted from the Preschool Language Scales Fifth Edition (PLS-5). The results indicated that there was no significance between the time spent on technology and the visual and auditory memory scores. The paper argues that both State-led policies and public institutions, as well as the experience and networks of returnee entrepreneurs, together facilitated the development of Taiwan's semiconductor industry, specifically the pureplay-foundry. There is beauty in the ubiquitous contrast and coexistence between these two entities, which we encounter on a daily basis. My work has been inspired by Ernst Haeckel, a German biologist, naturalist, and artist from the early 1900’s. Leapovers are defined and placed in historical context, with some examples from telecommunications and case settings from Russia and China. I was originally inspired by a previous project in a 3D modeling class. For my final project, I designed two robots; male and female; who’s naked bodied reflected the presence of technological communications in society and lack of face-to-face interactions. I displayed the robots in a variety of sexual positions, which appear cute or sweet to the viewer because of the toon-shader effect. The toon-shader effect makes the 3D models look like cartoons.
