In this paper, we present an extension of our novel microsimulation technique, as applied to biological infection spread, to estimate the underlying causal parameters driving an infectious process. The underlying simulation framework, Simulacron, was developed in order to understand the development and course of, response to and recovery from single and multiple threats on community populations. Such threats include a range of natural (such as disease spread in communities, fire, flood etc.) and manmade events (such as terrorism, including the use of biological agents, money laundering, smuggling as well as accidents etc.). This paper presents a novel algorithm for the dimensionality reduction which employs compressed sensing (CS) to improve the generalization capability of a classifier, especially for large-scale data. Compared to traditional dimensionality reduction methods, the proposed algorithm makes no use of the problem-dependent parameters, nor does it require additional computation for the eigenvalue decomposition like PCA or LDA. Mathematically, the derived algorithm regards the input features as the dictionary in CS, and selects the features that minimize the residual output error iteratively, thus the resulting features have a direct correspondence to the performance requirements of the given problem. Many interesting phenomena have been observed in layers of granular materials subjected to vertical oscillations; these include the formation of a variety of standing wave patterns, and the occurrence of isolated features called oscillons, which alternately form conical heaps and craters oscillating at one-half of the forcing frequency. No continuum-based explanation of these phenomena has previously been proposed. We present the first dynamic universal accumulator that allows (1) the accumulation of elements in a DDH-hard group G and (2) one who knows x such that y = gx has - or has not - been accumulated, where g generates G, to efficiently prove her knowledge of such x in zero knowledge, and hence without revealing, e.g., x or y. We introduce the Attribute-Based Anonymous Credential System, which allows the verifier to authenticate anonymous users according to any access control policy expressible as a formula of possibly negated boolean user attributes. We construct the system from our accumulator.

Application Of Quasi-Orthogonal Space-Time-Frequency Codes In Mb-Ofdm Uwb, Alfred Mertins, Le Chung Tran

This paper examines the application of Quasi-Orthogonal Space-Time-Frequency Codes (QOSTFCs) to advance either data rate or error performance in recently proposed Space-Time-Frequency Coded Multiband OFDM Ultra-Wideband (STFC MB-OFDM UWB) communications systems. It is shown that QOSTFCs can provide significantly better error performance, compared to the conventional MB-OFDM UWB (without STFCs) and to the Orthogonal STFCs (OSTFCs) of the same order, at the same data rate, without increasing the total transmission power. In other words, QOSTFCs can provide higher data rates with the same error performance, compared to OSTFCs.

A new modelling and classification approach for human gait is proposed. Body movements are obtained using a sensor suit recording inertial signals that are subsequently modelled on a humanoid frame with 23 degrees of freedom (DOF). Measured signals include position, velocity, acceleration, orientation, angular velocity and angular acceleration. The identification and modelling method segments the stream of non–linear movement data on the basis of the features extracted from the sensor signals. In this paper, we analyze statistical properties of the largest eigenvalue of correlated complex Wishart matrices. The results provide an analytical tool for the study of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) maximal ratio combining (MRC) systems in the presence of spatial fading correlation at the transmitter or receiver. Based on them, the exact closed-form expressions for the cumulative distribution function and the probability density function of the output signal-to-noise ratio are presented. The analytical results are validated by Monte Carlo simulations.

Snapshot Isolation (SI) protocol is a database transaction processing algorithm used by some of commercial database systems to manage the concurrent executions of database transactions. SI protocol is a special case of multi-version algorithm. It avoids many of the anomalies typical for the concurrent processing of database transactions. Unfortunately, SI protocol does not guarantee correct serialization of database transactions under certain conditions. Techniques for the analysis of spatial data have, to date, tended to ignore any effect caused by error in specifying the spatial locations at which measurements are recorded. This paper reviews the methods for adjusting spatial inference in the presence of data-location error, particularly for data that. have a continuous spatial index (geostatistical data). New kriging equations are developed and evaluated based on a simulation experiment. They are also applied to remote-sensing data from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer instrument on the Nimbus-7 satellite, where the location error is caused by assignment of the data to their nearest grid-cell centers. …

Focuses on the benchmark control problems for seismically excited nonlinear buildings defined by Ohtori et al. (2000). This benchmark study focuses on three typical steel structures, 3-, 9- and 20-storey buildings designed for the SAC project for Los Angeles in the California region. The first stage of applying the fuzzy controller to this benchmark study for the 3-storey building is reported. IEC 61000-3-6 [1] comprises a number of stages and tests to determine harmonic emission allowances for customers connected to MV or HV networks. Of particular importance is the section concerning loads distributed along a feeder, each having a different fault level. Although a common situation, the treatment given in the IEC standard is poorly described, being largely illustrated by one atypical example. This allows simplifying assumptions to be made which are invalid in practical cases. This paper outlines a more general approach that is relatively easy to apply.

This paper describes the application of human visual models in (i) defining a visually uniform colour representation space and (ii) the formulation of visually weighted Kalman filtering for image restoration. The former being useful in colour image quantisation and compression. For (i), the uniformity of chromaticity differences at the ouptut of Frei ’s colour vision model [3] is tested and compensated for by using MacAdam’s uniform chromaticity space. For (ii), the dynamical image model of the Kalman filter is visually weighted using the frequency response of Stockham’s model [l] of human vision.
