Transformative learning occurs when individuals not only learn only some specific knowledge or skills, but also achieve a more inclusive understanding of themselves and of society through the learning process. To transform means to overcome limiting assumptions, with the potential of engendering new attitudes, psychological attributes, and behaviours. This integrated-article dissertation explores the possibility of transformative learning experiences through music with marginalized individuals in Northeastern Brazil.

In the context of an enduring shortage of nurses, this study explores the career pathways and experiences of immigrant and Canadian-born nurses in two Ontario cities utilizing a qualitative research design consisting of 70 in-depth interviews. Differences in career entry and experiences of workplace conflict across immigration status and race are explored.
First, I explore successful immigrants’ pathways into the nursing profession and their social and economic integration into the Canadian economy in light of the traditional assimilation and segmented assimilation theories. This dissertation examined the relationship between immigrant housing consumption behaviours in Canada and transnational engagements (specifically remittances and transnational housing investments). Immigrant integration remains a paramount issue of interest to scholars and policy experts especially because of Canada’s adoption of immigration inflow as its principal population growth policy. The purpose of this research project was to investigate the information landscape with respect to mental health, mental illness, and depression as it might be encountered by female Muslim immigrants in London Ontario.
