A Comparative Study On Artificial Intelligence Curricula, Li Li
A Comparative Study On Artificial Intelligence Curricula, Li Li
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This research is a comparative analysis of four K-12 AI curricula to recognize and interpret their basic elements and pedagogical approaches. Guided by (socio) constructivist and constructionist theories as the theoretical framework, qualitative document analysis is applied as the research methodology. Schwab’s four commonplaces serve as the initial analytical framework. A (socio) constructivism and constructionism lens is also used to compare the curricula. The major findings are 1. The four curricula are different in their coverage of subject matters with the curriculum from the UK covering the widest and most balanced range of subject matters. 2. The four curricula apply, …
Mental Health Literacy And Ontario Secondary School Curriculum, Christine J. Manser
Mental Health Literacy And Ontario Secondary School Curriculum, Christine J. Manser
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Student centered mental health initiatives have seen a rise in implementation as the mental health risks for adolescents and young people are becoming more recognized. However, regardless of these initiatives, youth continue to demonstrate poor mental health which can result in stigmatizing attitudes and behavior, low self-esteem, poor help-seeking behavior, and increased suicide risk. To explore the disconnect between the goal of educational initiatives and their current demonstrated outcomes, this dissertation utilized social constructivist learning theory and school-based mental health literacy to conduct a content analysis of curriculum documents and textbooks in use within Ontario high schools. This case study …
Developing Competencies For Public Policy Advocacy: A Comparative Case Analysis, Amy L. Lewis
Developing Competencies For Public Policy Advocacy: A Comparative Case Analysis, Amy L. Lewis
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
While health care and social service students in Ontario are expected to graduate with competencies in policy advocacy, the lack of knowledge and skills negatively impacts their participation as licensed providers. This study used an exploratory, comparative case study methodology with a critical theory lens to identify the process of how community-based organizations engaged in public policy advocacy to create educational competencies for undergraduate curricula. Eight organizational leaders participated in semi-structured interviews that were transcribed and analyzed both inductively and deductively using major concepts from Kingdon’s multiple streams theory to distinguish the policy advocacy process and Bloom’s taxonomy to identify …
The Search For Canadian Art Song: Developing The Framework For A Database Of Art Song By Canadian Composers, Leanne Vida
The Search For Canadian Art Song: Developing The Framework For A Database Of Art Song By Canadian Composers, Leanne Vida
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Art song is a diverse, inclusive genre of music, as well as an important pedagogical tool for singers. It can be performed in the smallest of spaces, but it is also able to hold its own in the largest concert halls. It requires only a few musicians, making it an ideal choice for a concert or recital setting, and its poetic content describes virtually every aspect of life, in many languages, making it accessible to a broad audience. Many of its works require less physical maturity on the part of singers and require less rigorous technical ability than larger concert …
Formative Space: Literacy Practices In 21st Century Curriculum Making, Mary C. Ott
Formative Space: Literacy Practices In 21st Century Curriculum Making, Mary C. Ott
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Partnerships for 21st Century learning support curricular reforms for global, cross-disciplinary competencies that will leverage and benefit education technologies. However, this research partnership with a literacy program developer occasioned an opportunity to study curriculum making in the 21st century that did not make assumptions about technologies and competencies. The integrated thesis based on this project pushes boundaries on how assessment and curriculum making are conceptualized by exploring broader questions of inquiry and participation through literacy and assessment practices in six junior elementary classrooms in Ontario, Canada, over a two-year period. Chapter 1 provides the background and purpose of the study …
Critical Border Crossing: Exploring Positionalities Through Soundscape Composition And Critical Reflection, Kelly Bylica
Critical Border Crossing: Exploring Positionalities Through Soundscape Composition And Critical Reflection, Kelly Bylica
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The purpose of this study was to explore the development, implementation, and impact of a musical learning project in two middle school general music contexts. Specifically, this study sought to consider in what ways, if any, such a project supported critical reflection, created opportunities for border crossing, and encouraged multiple ways of knowing in the music classroom (Giroux, 2005). Co-designed by the researcher and two participating educators, the five-week project focused on the creation of digitally designed student soundscape compositions that aimed to help students draw connections between learning practice and in-the-world experience. Critical listening and dialogue were utilized as …
A Critical Discourse Study Of Programmatic Literacy Curricula In Ontario: Knowledge, Power, And Discourse In An Age Of Diversity, Susan Ibdah
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The aim of this study was to produce understandings of programmatic literacy curricula in an age of cultural, linguistic, and modal diversity. Relative to this diversity, I applied van Dijk’s (2011) Critical Discourse Analysis to the case of the programmatic literacy curricula in Ontario, Canada to investigate how the discourses of these curricula positioned learners, teachers, literacy learning, and the learning environment. Ontario is an important case to study since it has been identified as a model of successful literacy education innovation (e.g., Luke, 2018) in a context that contains hyper diversity within the student population. The study drew on …
