Pre-Service Educational Assistants’ Attitudes Toward Inclusion, John Freer Nov 2015

Pre-Service Educational Assistants’ Attitudes Toward Inclusion, John Freer

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, educational assistants have taken on an integral role in special education. They often work with the most challenging and vulnerable student population. To prepare EAs, some of Ontario’s publicly funded colleges have developed pre-service programs. In Ontario, the number of students receiving special education services in K-12 is increasing, and policy trends are advocating for educational inclusion. Literature has suggested that educators’ attitudes toward educational inclusion may impact the extent to which inclusive strategies are implemented. Despite the importance of EAs in the special education team, very few studies have investigated their attitudes toward inclusion. This study …

How Can I Help? How Emerging Adults Respond To Victims Of Dating Aggression, Jillian Catherine Siobhan Glasgow Oct 2015

How Can I Help? How Emerging Adults Respond To Victims Of Dating Aggression, Jillian Catherine Siobhan Glasgow

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The current study investigated how young adults (i.e., helpers) who are approached by a dating aggression (DA) victim respond to the victim. It was hypothesized that most helpers would give helpful responses, that women would give more helpful responses than men, that female victims would receive more helpful responses than male victims, and that helpers’ attributions and attitudes would predict type of responses given. Students (N = 162) completed online measures of demographics, hostile attribution bias, attitudes about gender roles, attitudes about DA, and questions assessing help-giving experiences. Helpers gave more helpful than unhelpful responses, men gave more unhelpful responses …

Linking Attitudes, Policy, And Forest Cover Change In Buffer Zone Communities Of Chitwan National Park, Nepal, Jared R. Stapp

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Deforestation in Nepal threatens the functioning of complex social-ecological systems, including rural populations that depend on forests for subsistence, as well as Nepal’s biodiversity and other ecosystem services. Reliance on forest resources, coupled with high population densities and rates of growth, highlights the importance of studying the relationship between human communities, forest cover and trends through time, and forest management institutions. A Master Plan for Nepal’s Forestry Sector (MPFS), enacted in 1989, laid the foundation for modern community-based forest management in Nepal. In 2014, the MPFS reached the end of its 25-year lifespan, after successfully ushering in significant institutional changes …

Examining The Perceptions Of Pre-Service Teachers Toward Including Students With Autism Spectrum Disorders In A General Education Setting, Luanne Beth Sailors

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Including students with a range of abilities in today's classrooms paired with increasing inclusive practices has presented itself as a challenge for all educators. More specifically, students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have had an increased presence in general education settings. This study aimed to discover pre-service teachers' perceptions toward including students with ASD in a general education setting, examine pre-service teacher knowledge regarding ASD, and examine if any correlation between the two may exist. The main research instrument consisted of a set of 1) demographic questions (categorical data), 2) perceptions of inclusion of students with ASD measured in a …
