Computational Techniques In Medical Image Analysis Application For White Blood Cells Classification., Omar Dekhil May 2020

Computational Techniques In Medical Image Analysis Application For White Blood Cells Classification., Omar Dekhil

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

White blood cells play important rule in the human body immunity and any change in their count may cause serious diseases. In this study, a system is introduced for white blood cells localization and classification. The dataset used in this study is formed by two components, the first is the annotation dataset that will be used in the localization (364 images), and the second is labeled classes that will be used in the classification (12,444 images). For the localization, two approaches will be discussed, a classical approach and a deep learning based approach. For the classification, 5 different deep learning …

Smart Distributed Generation System Event Classification Using Recurrent Neural Network-Based Long Short-Term Memory, Shuva Das Jan 2020

Smart Distributed Generation System Event Classification Using Recurrent Neural Network-Based Long Short-Term Memory, Shuva Das

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

High penetration of distributed generation (DG) sources into a decentralized power system causes several disturbances, making the monitoring and operation control of the system complicated. Moreover, because of being passive, modern DG systems are unable to detect and inform about these disturbances related to power quality in an intelligent approach. This paper proposed an intelligent and novel technique, capable of making real-time decisions on the occurrence of different DG events such as islanding, capacitor switching, unsymmetrical faults, load switching, and loss of parallel feeder and distinguishing these events from the normal mode of operation. This event classification technique was designed …

Applying Artificial Intelligence To Medical Data, Shaikh Shiam Rahman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Machine learning, data mining, and deep learning has become the methodology of choice for analyzing medical data and images. In this study, we implemented three different machine learning techniques to medical data and image analysis. Our first study was to implement different log base entropy for a decision tree algorithm. Our results suggested that using a higher log base for the dataset with mostly categorical attributes with three or more categories for each attribute can obtain a higher accuracy. For the second study, we analyzed mental health data tuning the parameters of the decision tree (splitting method, depth and entropy). …

Experiments On The Neural Network Approach To The Handwritten Digit Classification Problem, William Meissner Jan 2020

Experiments On The Neural Network Approach To The Handwritten Digit Classification Problem, William Meissner

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

When the MNIST dataset was introduced in 1998, training a network was a multiple week problem in order to receive results far less accurate than an average CPU can produce within a couple of hours today. While this indicates that training a network on such a dataset is not the complicated problem it may have been twenty years ago, the MNIST dataset makes a good tool for study and testing with beginner and medium complexity neural networks. This paper follows along with the work presented in the online textbook “Neural Networks and Deep Learning” by Michael Nielson and an updated …
