This thesis presents an overview of my current work in context with my entire body of painted quilts created over a span of twenty-eight years. From its foundation in Feminism, my work reflects the quilt as an art form and a metaphor for my life and the lives of women of my generation. I have used Semiotics as a tool for organizing and explaining the work. The study of signs and their referents make a chain of signification that helps explain the multilayered and conceptual nature of my work.
