Psychological reactance (reactance) is a construct that has begun to attract attention in the past few decades. Reactance is the tendency of a person to react in some way to protect personal freedoms from real or perceived threats (Brehm, 1966; Brehm & Brehm, 1981). Current theorizing and research suggest that reactance is a characteristic related to an interaction between the situation and transient variables such as perceptions of self or available alternatives (Brehm, 1976; Cherulnik & Citrin, 1974; Hannah, Hannah, & Wattie, 1976). Psychological reactance is a construct that motivates people to restore lost or threatened freedoms (Brehm, 1966). Research is beginning to show that psychological reactance may be related to family of origin dynamics. Autonomy is developed through a secure attachment. Dowd (1993) stated that autonomy is fostered by an optimal level of reactance, and one's personal identity is dependent on the development of a flexible autonomy. This study explored the relationship between psychological reactance and attachment. Additionally, research has suggested that level of reactance may be related to level of autonomy. This project examined some linkages and discrepancies between theories that describe the acquisition of gender typical attributes in childhood with theories that describe the maintenance of those attributes in adulthood. This perspective included the idea that there are several well known ways of enacting masculinity, related to well known stereotypes (e.g., jock, business, sensitive new age guy), and highlighted within sex variability. Because a distinction between biological sex and gender was made, the sample was not restricted to males despite focusing on the masculine. Conceptualizing And Measuring The Life Space And Its Relation To Openness To Experience, Marc A. Brackett

The Life Space is divided into four domains that surround personality, which broadly encompass a person's biological foundations, owned possessions, interactions and daily activities, and group memberships. In Study 1, a revised measure of the Life Space (the College Student Life Space Scale) was developed. Factor analysis of the items within each domain resulted in 96 meaningful and reliable factor-based scales that provided a rich description of college students' personal surroundings and everyday behavior. A second-order (hierarchical) factor analysis of the first-order scales resulted in seven global Life Space dimensions. In Study 2, the first- and second-order Life Space scales …
