The purpose of this study was to investigate the integration of an attribution retraining program and a cognitive self-instruction procedure as a means of improving the academic performance and component attentional skills and modifying the cognitive-behavioral beliefs and behaviors of elementary-age children served in self-contained learning disabilities (SCLD) programs.;Subjects were 77 children, 10-13 years of age, served in public school SCLD programs. A primary group (n = 27) received attributional retraining and cognitive self-instruction, a secondary group (n = 25) cognitive self-instruction alone, and a control group (n = 25) traditional instruction. The purpose of the study was to analyze the role perceptions of the school principal in Virginia. Information was gathered to identify principals according to such demographic and situational variables as sex, age, race, marital status, educational preparation, type of school assignment, school size, and years of administrative experience. Collected data was analyzed to determine if principals' perceptions of their roles differ significantly because of differences in sex, age, race, level of school organization (elementary, middle level, and senior high), and location of the principal's school (suburban, urban, and rural).;The subjects were Virginia public school principals. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the job satisfaction of secondary assistant principals and their perception of their principal's leader behavior. Two major hypotheses were tested. The first hypothesis predicted a significant relationship between the leader behavior variables, consideration and initiating structure and the job satisfaction variables, supervision and work. The second hypothesis predicted a significant relationship between the leader behavior variables, consideration and initiating structure and the job satisfaction variables, supervision and work while controlling for the effects of the demographic variables age, sex, race, educational level and length of service. Calls for a more prescriptive, individually tailored approach to counselor training have recently appeared in the literature. The focus of this study was the assessment of behavior and personality characteristics of master's level counseling students and to determine if change occurred among these characteristics as a result of counselor training and supervision or to the gender of the student.;Behavior was assessed using the Hutchins Behavior Inventory which measures the thinking, feeling and acting domains of behavior. Personality characteristics were measured using the Adjective Checklist and the California Personality Inventory. The purpose of this study was to analyze the contribution of five factors as predictors of academic department secretaries' role conflict, role ambiguity, and propensity to leave. The five predictor variables were: (1) secretaries' decision participation level, (2) department chairpersons' communication openness, (3) department chairpersons' role conflict, (4) department chairpersons' role ambiguity, and (5) secretaries' length of service. Across The First Divide: Frontiers Of Settlement And Culture In Augusta County, Virginia, 1738-1770, Nathaniel Turk Mccleskey

This is a history of a frontier county in late colonial Virginia. Augusta County was created in 1738 and subdivided for the first time in 1770. During the intervening years it encompassed most of Virginia's claims to land west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.;As drawn by Virginians, the borders of Augusta County simultaneously encompassed two types of frontiers: a frontier of settlement on which white immigrants created a new society, and a frontier of culture in which those settlers interacted with a variety of Indians. The importance of participation in budgeting for managers and its relevance to job satisfaction has been the subject of a number of studies over the last several decades. In addition, the belief systems of such managers appear to constitute a significant influence on the attitudes they hold in various social situations. Specifically, the personality variable, locus of control, utilized in this study and first introduced by Rotter, refers to the individual's perceptions of events in his/her life as the result of his/her own actions (internal control), or the consequences of such forces as fate, luck, or powerful others (external control).;The …
