Education plays an important role in preparing current and future generations for the challenges ahead caused by climate change. The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the educational influence textbooks and undergraduate instructors have on their students. Three studies were carried out to explore these influences on climate change instruction. The first study looked at the extent, type, and location of climate change topics across 24 undergraduate general chemistry textbooks. General Chemistry has a high DFWI rate, disproportionately impacting students of marginalized identities (Anderson & Kim, 2006). This research investigates the hypothesis that the impacts of stereotype threat and imposter syndrome could be moderated by sharing with others through a pen pal activity. The number of adolescents identifying as transgender has been increasing with many transgender youth receiving treatment with a gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) that suppresses sex hormone production (i.e., puberty blocker). Transgender individuals taking a GnRHa to block puberty have reported improved mental wellbeing, but the physiological impacts need to be examined. Consumers’ visual attention to sponsorship information has been shown to influence their explicit memory of sponsor brands and their purchase intentions. The current research builds on the sponsorship information processing framework of previous scholars by examining consumers’ real-time behaviors to sponsorship information in a natural setting. The first aim was to investigate how students’ perception toward the flipped classroom and video learning correlate to their characteristics including their demographics, first generation status, English language learner status, Grit level, motivation types, quality of peer collaboration, and social self-efficacy. Our data indicated that there is significant correlation between student’s motivation status and attitude toward learning from video lectures. The United States faces a shortage of nursing faculty members, impacting the nation’s ability to meet the demand for more nurses in the workforce. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that predicted nurse faculty members’ intent to stay in academe. Dozens of factors were identified in the literature and grouped using Herzberg’s (1966) motivation-hygiene theory of job satisfaction. Using Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT) and reflexive Thematic Analysis (TA) methods, the purpose of this case study was to construct theory about equity for students studying chemistry at public universities in Colorado. Interviews with students (N=12), chemistry instructors (N=9), and equity practitioners (N=9) as well as observations of chemistry classes (N=42) were collected. Many students in pre-licensure nursing programs struggle with calculating accurate medication dosages even though they meet the numeracy requirements for application to the nursing programs. Most pre-licensure programs require that nursing students pass dosage calculation exams at a specified level of accuracy before progressing to the next term. The purpose of this research was to explore academic nurse educator attitudes, specifically beliefs and values, regarding their role educating ethnically and racially diverse students through the lens of culturally relevant pedagogy. Focused ethnography methodology was applied through all phases of this research. Interviews with 14 academic nurse educators provided insight into a subculture of nursing. Themes that emerged from data analysis included strengths perspective, teacher-student relationships, diversity as an asset, crucial or difficult conversations, and ethnicity and race setting the narrative.
