Quantitative Analyses Of Perennial Atriplex-Dominated Vegetation Of Southeastern Utah, Teja Singh

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

An intensive study of the applicability of mathematical methodology to the ordination and classification of desert vegetation was undertaken during 1962, 1963 and 1964. The study area, forming part of the shadscale zone vegetation and covering 13.5 square miles, is situated near Cisco in Grand County, southeastern Utah. Broad pediments originating from the nearby Book Cliffs are the main landform.

Geologically, the area was subjected to many cycles of erosion. The pediment and the Quaternary remnants thin out with increasing distance from the Book Cliffs. The alluvial fan deposits are readily recognizable at three distinct levels. Mancos shale, a lead-gray …

Description And Evaluation Of Institutions Involved In Water Allocation And Distribution In Utah, Kimber C. Webb

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Water development and allocation have been among the most important problems Utah has had to face throughout the past 117 years of development . When Utah's first white settlers, the Mormon pioneers, entered Salt Lake Valley in July of 1847, little met their eyes to entice their stay. The earth was so parched and dry that they were unable to scratch the surface with their plows. Less than two hours after their arrival members of the party began digging ditches and building dams to irrigate and soften the earth so they could begin plowing.

Factors Influencing Meat Consumption In The Home, Cache And Box Elder Counties, Utah, 1965-1966, William Duane Evans

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Meat is important in the American diet. Money spent for meat ranks as the largest single item in the family food dollar. Various studies indicate that the proportion of the food dollar spent for meat ranges from 25 to 30 percent. Such foods as dairy products and fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables calculated as separate groups account for a smaller single percentage than meat. Dairy products, the one of next importance to meat, account for approximately 18 percent of the consumer's food dollar.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Monte Cristo area of the Cache National Forest has consistently supported a heavy pocket gopher infestation for many years. In 1957, and several succeeding years, infested range was treated with poisoned grain for pocket gopher control. Nearby range (also infested) was not treated. Thus, gopher-controlled range became available for comparative study, with periods of successive annual control of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years. Within each of these areas (designated as treatments) were located two study sites in 1961 and three in 1962. Within each study site were three sample areas, and just outside each study site were …

The Feasibility Of The Location Of A Steel Fabrication Plant In The State Of Utah, A. Brent Pulsipher May 1967

The Feasibility Of The Location Of A Steel Fabrication Plant In The State Of Utah, A. Brent Pulsipher

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The feasibility of locating the major household appliance industry in Utah was studied by comparing a Utah location with present production sites for this commodity.

Major elements of cost were projected in detail according to a hypothetically constructed model. The Utah location showed advantages in transportation and labor costs while at the same time having a disadvantage in the cost of steel.

Since the analysis is made with respect to the model, which is based on certain assumptions, the use of different models would naturally lead to different results.

Both the advantages and disadvantages of the Utah location would most …

Seasonal, Diurnal And Species Variation In Forage Moisture Content In Relation To Site On Mountain Summer Range Of Northern Utah, Chaudhry Mohammad Sharif May 1967

Seasonal, Diurnal And Species Variation In Forage Moisture Content In Relation To Site On Mountain Summer Range Of Northern Utah, Chaudhry Mohammad Sharif

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Practical assessments of range production and utilization are based on forage weight estimates. In preparing these estimates moisture content in green vegetation offers some problems. The moisture component is not likely to be constant for a given species. Diurnal, seasonal and site variability have been well illustrated for agronomic and tree species (Salisbury, 1848; Jenkins, 1879; Miller, 1917; Pearson, 1924; Watkins, 1940; Parker, 1951; Ackley, 1954; Werner, 1954; Zohary and Orshan, 1956; Slatyer, 1959; Kozlowaki, 1965 and Jame son, 1966). Since variability is also likely for range plants, computations made on green weights are apt to be fallacious. It is …

Irrigation Water Values In Cache County, Utah, Marlyn Fife

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In Utah all water, both on or below the ground surface, is considered public property. The right to use water is obtained by following certain subsiding procedures of appropriation through the office of the State Engineer. Any right to the use of water may be changed to some other beneficial use with the approval of the State Engineer; however, there must be no interference with other rights, unless proper compensation has been made.

Agriculture still uses most of the available water in Utah; However, farmers' needs for water are not exactly the same. When allocation per acre is the same …
