Coincidence Analyzing -Power Measurements Of The Reaction Carbon(Polarized Proton,Proton',Photon)Excited Carbon Through The 15.11 Mev State, Christopher Robinson Lyndon
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
Analyzing-power measurements A$\sbsp{n}{coinc}$, A$\sbsp{s}{coinc}$, and A$\sbsp{l}{coinc}$ are presented for the reaction $\sp{12}$C($\vec p ,p\sp\prime\gamma$)$\sp{12}$C$\sp{\*}$ (15.11 MeV). A polarized proton beam at 318 MeV was used and data were taken for 3 mutually perpendicular directions of polarization. A scintillator hodoscope was used for scattered proton detection and 4 BGO detectors for the 15.11 MeV $\gamma$-ray. Data are presented for 8 azimuthal directions of the scattered proton around the beam direction, and for the polar angles averaged between 3.3$\sp\circ$ and 11.2$\sp\circ$. The data are compared with non-relativistic calculations (DW81) and relativistic calculations with explicit treatment of exchange (DREX). The average size of …
Keeping The House In Order: Government Regulations And Campus Compliance. A Case Study Of Section 504 Of The Rehabilitation Act Of 1973 And Compliance By The College Of William And Mary, Robbie Lee Cordle
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
The topic of this study is federal regulations and university compliance. The purpose is to understand university compliance with public policy; the approach used is a case study of one particular university, the College of William and Mary, and its compliance measures with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Areas that are reviewed are as follows: (I) Public Policy and Compliance of Colleges; (II) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; (III) Organizational Behavior: College Response to External Mandates; (IV) Particular Case School: The College of William and Mary, Circa 1693.;This study looks at broad interpretations of …

A Superconducting Compact Hydrogen Maser Resonator, David B. Opie
A Superconducting Compact Hydrogen Maser Resonator, David B. Opie
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
The discovery of high critical temperature superconductors (HTSC) has raised the temperature at which the greatly reduced surface resistance, characteristic of superconducting materials, may be exploited. For microwave frequencies below 100 GHz, the surface resistance, R{dollar}\sb{lcub}s{rcub}{dollar}, at liquid nitrogen temperatures (77K) of the new HTSC materials is found to be better than copper measured at the same temperature and frequency. Consequently, the miniaturization of passive microwave components will be among the first applications of these new materials. This dissertation details the development, testing and evaluation of a superconducting compact hydrogen maser resonator made from electrophoretic Y{dollar}\sb1Ba\sb2Cu\sb3{dollar}O{dollar}\sb{lcub}7-\delta{rcub}{dollar} (YBCO). Such a resonator …

A Case Study Of The Predictive Ability Of Placement Tests For Principles Of Accounting, Sonja Ann Sanders Villaire
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
The predictive ability of mathematics and reading placement tests used as a prerequisite for entry into the introductory level of accounting principles was investigated in a case study conducted at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia for students enrolled during the 19-month period beginning with June 1988 and ending with December 1989. The entire population of 1353 students was used in the study which tested for the independence of two variables, assessed or non-assessed students and their success (or non-success) in the course. In addition, the scores on the placement tests were compared with the final grade of the …
Vegetation Ecology Of Tidal Freshwater Swamps Of The Lower Chesapeake Bay, United States Of America, Richard D. Rheinhardt
Vegetation Ecology Of Tidal Freshwater Swamps Of The Lower Chesapeake Bay, United States Of America, Richard D. Rheinhardt
Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects
Woody and herbaceous vegetation were sampled in 23 tidal swamps along a tidal freshwater tributary of lower Chesapeake Bay. Four vegetative categories were ordinated with Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DECORANA). Species distribution patterns of each strata were compared with respect to edaphic factors, a wetness index, and mean water table depth. Woody species are restricted to hummocks (topographic highs). Hummocks drain as quickly as the tide drops and so are partially inundated for only short periods each day. Although low in canopy diversity, tidal swamps are floristically rich in herbaceous and woody understory species, ranking them among the most speciose in …
