Effects Of Surveillance On Intrinsic Motivation, Richard Rajala Jan 1976

Effects Of Surveillance On Intrinsic Motivation, Richard Rajala

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Previous research indicates that explicit surveillance should induce subjects to attribute their performance at a task to the surveillance; hence, such subjects should persist to a lesser extent than subjects not exposed to such surveillance. Two forms of explicit surveillance were utilized: human and camera, as well as the appropriate opposites (human non- and camera non-surveillance). Subjects were directed to perform a model construction task, then were unobtrusively observed during a post-task “waiting period.” No difference in persistence was found for type of surveillance utilized. However, as predicted, subjects exposed to surveillance persisted less with the task materials than subjects …

A Study Of The Attitudes Of Canadian Jews Toward Israel, Amiram Rokach Jan 1976

A Study Of The Attitudes Of Canadian Jews Toward Israel, Amiram Rokach

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

The present study attempted to investigate the relationships between self esteem, perception of Gentiles’ attitudes, and attitudes to the State of Israel, as expressed by a sample of Canadian born Jews.

Four hypotheses were formulated. The first one stated that there existed a negative relationship between perception of Gentiles’s attitudes (GA) and positive attitudes toward Israel (AI). That hypothesis was supported.

The second hypothesis stated that there existed a negative relationship between self esteem (SE) and positive attitudes toward Israel (AI). That hypothesis was also supported.

the third hypothesis stated that when high positive attitudes toward Israel (HPAI) are found, …

An Evaluation Of A Family Life Education Program, Anne Westhues Jan 1976

An Evaluation Of A Family Life Education Program, Anne Westhues

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

This study has two distinct objectives: to evaluate how effectively the family life education program at Sir John A. Macdonald High School in Hamilton, Ontario is meeting its stated objectives and to evaluate the relative effectiveness of a traditional teaching method and an annovative teaching method with this family life education program. There are three groups in this study. The first group took the family life education program taught with the innovative method, the second group took the family life education program taught with the traditional method,a nd the third group did not take a family life education program.

Research In The M.S.W. Curriculum: Correlates Of An Effects On Student Attitudes And Knowledge, Daniel Filliol Jan 1976

Research In The M.S.W. Curriculum: Correlates Of An Effects On Student Attitudes And Knowledge, Daniel Filliol

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

To determine the effect of graduate social work research courses on student research knowledge and attitudes towards research and to find predictors of these, two groups of social work students—one tested prior to and another tested following their social work research courses—were measured on several antecedent variables and on a test of research knowledge, attitude and interest in research as a career. Having an undergraduate major in psychology was predictive of high research knowledge and having had prior research work experience was indicative of a positive attitude towards research. Post-research course students demonstrated greater knowledge of research and a stronger …

The Effects Of Interaction With Conserving Adults And Peers On The Acquisition Of Conservation By Nonconservers, Douglas Arthur Smith Jan 1976

The Effects Of Interaction With Conserving Adults And Peers On The Acquisition Of Conservation By Nonconservers, Douglas Arthur Smith

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Nonconserving children were placed in a situation where they had to interact with either two conserving adults or two conserving children. Each triad (one nonconserver and two conservers) was asked to give judgments and explanations for conservation problems. The type of conserving explanations (invariant quantity, reversibility, and compensation) given by the conservers in the interaction were varied. Approximately one week after the interaction the nonconserving subjects were posttested and the results indicated that nonconservers increased in conservation score after interacting with conservers. Hearing different explanations did not differentially affect the scores of nonconservers. The results did indicate that invariant quantity …

The Background And Nature Of Temple Mythology In Rabbinic Literature, V. George Shillington Jan 1976

The Background And Nature Of Temple Mythology In Rabbinic Literature, V. George Shillington

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Rabbinic ideas concerning the Temple of Jerusalem captured the interest of the present writer as he was researching the biblical concept of sacrifice. It was fascinating to discover that the rich symbolism of the Temple in rabbinic thought developed in a period when the Temple did not exist. The presence of teh mythical Temple in the literature of the Rabbis began to raise certain questions: Why did the Jewish leaders of the post-Temple era develop such an elaborate mythology of the Temple? Why did they continue to imagine a cultus which had long since vanished? These questions are compounded by …

Sedimentology Of The Glaciofluvial Deposits Of Woolwich And Pilkington Townships, Ellis Bowes Jan 1976

Sedimentology Of The Glaciofluvial Deposits Of Woolwich And Pilkington Townships, Ellis Bowes

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

The Lake Wisconsin glaciofluvial deposits in Woolwich and Pilkington townships are examined for the purpose of environmental reconstruction and the establishment of the paleocurrent patterns. Sediment grain size and primary sedimentary structure are used to define sedimentary facies of environmental studies while the distribution of indicator pebbles, trends in clast size reduction and primary sedimentary structures and employed for paleocurrent analysis. The exposures most representative of the depositional sequences encountered are examined and provide an impression of the sedimentological characteristics of the various glaciofluvial deposits.

Three distinctive types of glaciofluvial deposits can be identified on the basis of surface morphology …

The Relationship Between Urban Structure And Human Behaviour: An Exploratory Investigation, John Mark Mccash Jr. Jan 1976

The Relationship Between Urban Structure And Human Behaviour: An Exploratory Investigation, John Mark Mccash Jr.

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Recognition of the limitations of previous explanations of urban spatial structure due to their implicit assumptions concerning human behaviour in conjunction with the desire to present a framework more conducive to the answering of socially relevant urban problems, has led to this study’s use of an exploratory methodology within which to investigate the phenomena of urban spatial structure. The overall purpose is to investigate the relationships between both the structural and behavioural components of urban spatial structure which will possibly lead to greater levels of understanding of the complex processes which give rise to our present urban environments. To achieve …
