The National Payroll Institute (NPI) conducts an annual survey to measure the financial situation of their members. Using this data, the Financial Wellness Lab (FWL) then analyzes and applies advanced machine learning techniques to gain meaningful insights on the respondents. Of the many areas the FWL investigates regarding this data, the primary focus is identifying similar groups of individuals (clusters), and how these groups differ from one another. This article examines the relationship between tradition and modern elements of Indigenous music through a cyclical perspective, and challenges colonial concepts of Indigenous modernity. Indigenous culture is often portrayed in mainstream culture as a relic of the past, which renders it incompatible with modernity. With a special focus on Indigenous female artists’ perspectives, I examine the ways in which women placed in this unique intersection challenge the binaries of past/present and tradition/modern.

The research conducted was used to design a study that will measures these psychosocial factors at the beginning and end of a first-year, general chemistry course. The research also aimed to determine the best active learning method to implement in the general chemistry course, that has over 2000 students enrolled in it, that could improve student feelings towards these psychosocial factors.

Despite the fact that everyone's perspective on this matter varies, this research project was particularly helpful in examining how Western University students were affected. For the purpose of evaluating our findings, we defined information-related overload, which includes having too much, not enough, or difficulty finding information as our reference point. The variable annuity (VA) is a modern insurance product that offers certain guaranteed protection and tax-deferred treatment. Because of the inherent complexity of guarantees’ payoff, the closed-form solution of fair market values (FMVs) is often not available. Most insurance companies depend on Monte Carlo (MC) simulation to price the FMVs of these products, which is an extremely computational intensive and time-consuming approach. The metamodeling approach can be used to circumvent the heavy computation.

Previous studies have suggested larger magnitudes and lower thresholds in ipsilateral acoustic reflexes when compared to contralateral acoustic reflexes. This pilot study explored these effects by measuring how sound is transmitted through the middle ear. Middle ear absorbance was measured in the ipsilateral and contralateral conditions with and without activation of the acoustic reflex in normal hearing adults. Data showed that ipsilateral acoustic reflex thresholds (ART) were approximately 5 dB lower than contralateral ARTs. The magnitude of the acoustic reflex was shown to be larger in the ipsilateral condition. Results suggest that there is an evident contrast between ipsilateral and …

A couple of years ago, the “Instagram vs. reality” trend sprung from Instagram’s body positivity movement. The trend encourages Instagram users to post side-by-side images of themselves — one side being the highly curated “Instagram” depiction and the other being a more ‘real’ depiction. ‘Incels’ are an online community of single men who endorse toxic worldviews about women stemming from their dissatisfaction with singlehood. Approximately 50 deaths have been tied to the incel community. Incels have been identified as an emerging domestic terrorism threat in Canada, the US and UK. Yet, little is known about the characteristics of this community, the potential level of threat, or what we can do to prevent this threat from escalating. This research project, “Decolonizing Toronto Theatre,” examines how Soulpepper, a mainstream Toronto theatre company, and their collaboration with Native Earth Performing Arts are contributing to the equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization of Toronto theatre through their recent Indigenous productions: Kamloopa and Where the Blood Mixes. We watched, read, and analyzed both plays to explore how these two productions transform and redefine the intellectual, political, and artistic conventions of Anglo-Canadian theatre.
