Comparison Of The Obturation Density Of Gutta Percha Using Cold Lateral Condensation And Varying Continuous Wave Of Condensation Techniques, Jamie Michelle Day Aug 2006

Comparison Of The Obturation Density Of Gutta Percha Using Cold Lateral Condensation And Varying Continuous Wave Of Condensation Techniques, Jamie Michelle Day

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

This study compared the density of gutta percha when using cold lateral condensation (CLC) and continuous wave of condensation (CWC) under varying temperature and plugger depths. Seventy acrylic blocks were instrumented. The blocks were weighed and assigned to seven groups. Group 1 was obturated with CLC. The remaining six groups were obturated with CWC. Groups 2-4 were obturated by advancing the plugger to 3 mm short of the working length at 100°C, 200°C, and 300°C, respectively, and then backfilled. In groups 5-7 the plugger was advanced to 5 mm short of working length. The blocks were weighed again after obturation. …

The Efficacy And Repeatability Of The Vita Easy Shade System When Compared To Traditional Visual Methods Of Shade Evaluation, Ali Kanawati Aug 2006

The Efficacy And Repeatability Of The Vita Easy Shade System When Compared To Traditional Visual Methods Of Shade Evaluation, Ali Kanawati

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The standard method for clinical shade matching is the human eye along with comparative analysis among operators or auxiliary personnel. This study evaluated a new electronic method of clinical shade matching as compared to the standard method that has been almost exclusively used in the past. The Vita Easy Shade system, an electronic method of shade matching, was analyzed for relative accuracy and compared to specific operators' abilities whose effectiveness in color analysis within the realm of dentistry has been determined to be above average by using a simple color screening test. The Vita Easy Shade machine was used on …

Sensitivity Comparison Evaluation Of Computer-Generated Three Dimensional Surface Topography To Conventional Maxillofacial Radiographic Imagery, Michael A. Hazey Iii May 2006

Sensitivity Comparison Evaluation Of Computer-Generated Three Dimensional Surface Topography To Conventional Maxillofacial Radiographic Imagery, Michael A. Hazey Iii

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Objectives. LumenIQ's ImageIQ software enhances conventional radiographs by adding 3-D depth. This study evaluated whether a preference exists for ImageIQ format versus conventional radiographs, determined whether ImageIQ format is as sensitive as 2-D radiographs when detecting existing periodontal defects and simulated periodontal defects. Methods. 34 dental practitioners compared 12 radiographic cases with ImagelQ format. A panel of evaluators classified periodontal defects from 2-D radiographs and ImageIQ images. Simulated periodontal defects were radiographed with various radiographic variables altered, converted to ImageIQ 3-D format, and measured to evaluate the ImageIQ format compared to the 2-D control. Results . ImageIQ format showed improved …

An In-Vitro Investigation Of Frictional Resistance Of Self-Ligating And Ceramic Brackets When Subjected To Different Ligation Methods And Tipping Angles, Todd S. Bovenizer Jan 2006

An In-Vitro Investigation Of Frictional Resistance Of Self-Ligating And Ceramic Brackets When Subjected To Different Ligation Methods And Tipping Angles, Todd S. Bovenizer

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Objectives. To investigate the frictional resistance of two new ceramic brackets, two self-ligating bracket, and one standard stainless steel bracket with several methods of ligation. The size and composition of the archwires will also be varied. The wires used are all stainless steel and the sizes are .018, 19X25, and 21X25. The frictional forces obtained in this study will be more useful when compared in a relative manner to one another, as opposed to the actual forces that will be measured. Methods. Each bracket and wire was placed in an Instron machine and tested for 120 seconds. During this time …

An In Vivo And In Vitro Study Of A New Orthodontic Bonding Agent, Meredith S. Parks Jan 2006

An In Vivo And In Vitro Study Of A New Orthodontic Bonding Agent, Meredith S. Parks

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The in vitro study utilized 90 extracted premolars. The teeth were divided into six groups. In the first three groups brackets were bonded with Concise, Transbond XT, or APC Plus and debonded 30 minutes after bonding. In the second three groups, brackets were bonded with Concise, Transbond XT, or Concise and debonded after thermocycling. The in vivo study consisted of 31 patients and a split arch technique was utilized. Adhesives used were APC Plus and Transbond XT. Bond strengths for thermocycled Concise and Transbond XT were significantly greater than the other in vitro groups. Concise debonded after 30 minutes left …
