According to a recent article in Utah Business Magazine, Utah had the strongest job growth in the nation in 2018, with no signs of slowing down. Forbes ranked Utah second in their 2018 Best States for Business scorecard, moving it up from third the previous year. Given the increase in the number of high-tech firms in Utah, it should come as no surprise that many jobs are based in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. Teaching And Learning Software In Landscape Architecture: A Survey Of Software Use Amongst Faculty And Students, Benjamin H. George, Peter Summerlin, Taz Fulford

Competency in computer software is integral to the profession of landscape architecture, replacing many of the traditional drawing and drafting tools used. This article seeks to capture the current state of software in academia from the perspective of both faculty and students, and to determine if students are achieving the learning levels that faculty are targeting in their courses. Results show that students are attaining faculty’s learning targets, yet students report discontent with the learning process, suggesting that more emphasis is needed to help students understand the role of software in the design process.

The purpose of this study was to assess an agricultural tractor and machinery safety curriculum for teacher training that focused on hands-on integration activities to assist with training youth in machinery safety skills. Teachers attended a single ten-hour summer training seminar hosted in Montana, South Dakota, or Utah during 2017. Teachers completed the National Tractor and Machinery Safe Operation (NSTMOP) exam to measure their existing knowledge prior to beginning the training. Upon seminar completion, teachers took an NSTMOP post-test to measure their knowledge gain of agricultural safety practices and hazard recognition associated with machinery and tractors.
