Reliable electron yield (EY) measurements of highly insulating granular particles have long been considered too difficult to collect due the many experimental complexities that arise from the nature of the granular materials. This has led to a critical knowledge gap for both engineering strategies and basic science issues essential for myriad important space applications. In 2019, community fishponds were established near two towns in Eastern Uganda by Ideal Life Vision Uganda with the support of Rotary International. The ponds are stocked with African Sharp-tooth Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and are used as a source of both nutritious food and income for the local communities. Carbon monoxide (CO) has unique therapeutic properties including anti-cancer effects. Flavonols such as 3-hydroxyflavone can release CO upon exposure to visible light. Gallium(III) also has anti-cancer properties and can replace Fe(III) in biological processes. This research was focused on synthesizing a family of complexes with gallium(III) bound to 3-hydroxyflavone and similar ligands which can hopefully combine the anti-cancer properties of both gallium and CO. These complexes follow a simple synthesis and the flavonols are easily modified to optimize their properties. Several of these complexes have been made with varying degrees of solubility. The goal of this ongoing research is to develop a more cost-effective process for culturing cells to produce synthetic or lab grown meat. Cellular agriculture is an emerging technology with potential to have a smaller energy footprint and decrease in land used for livestock compared to traditional meat production. Cellular agriculture will allow Utah to experience continued population growth without hampering the meat production of the state. Ceanothus velutinus Douglas ex Hook. (snowbrush ceanothus) is a native evergreen species that possesses significant potential for use in urban landscapes. Ceanothus velutinus fixes nitrogen in symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing actinobacteria and plays an important soil-building role. However, it is unclear how to effectively induce nodules in C. velutinus using soil containing Frankia bacteria. The purpose of this study was to understand plant growth and nodulation of C. velutinus in different soilless substrates. Ceanothus velutinus seedlings were transplanted in cone-shaped containers with calcined clay, peat moss, or perlite and inoculated with 30 ml of native soil containing Frankia bacteria. Transgender individuals are erased from the historical narrative due to little definitive evidence of their existence in language, literature, or the archaeological record. Items like clothing, textiles, and wigs, which distinguished them from cisgender people, are largely lost to time. However, one way that we can view gender nonconformity is through art. This presentation analyzes the use of androgyny and gender non-conformity in Greco-Roman marble statues, focusing on Apollo. Although he is biologically male, Apollo is known for being effeminate and gender non-conforming. This research studies how the viscoelastic properties of chocolate change through the 72-hour grinding process of chocolate manufacturing. Utah State University's Aggie Chocolate Factory produces chocolate from single-origin sources, each of which has a unique flavor, and thus a unique chemistry. This research explores the effects of grinding time on the viscoelasticity of each of these origins' chocolate types, including dark, sweet dark chocolate, and milk chocolate. Federal national security related data centers are increasingly threatened as drought conditions increase in Utah and Idaho. The NSA and FBI data centers in these locations process digital information that informs local and national decision makers of critical national security occurrences. Data centers use water-based cooling systems to prevent hardware failure from overheating, that, while energy efficient, consume large quantities of water. Data centers cannot operate without robust cooling mechanisms.
