Does Presentation Make A Difference To Risk Perception: Testing Different Formats For Communication Of Cancer Risks, Sandra C. Jones

Evidence suggests that the presentation format of risk information can affect people’s perceptions of risk and influence health-related decisions. In these studies we investigated the impact of four different risk presentation formats: standard presentation, risk ladder, different base rates and visual representations on women’s perceptions of developing breast cancer of lymphoma. We found that the different presentations had virtually no impact on the participant’s risk estimates. Only in the second study relating to risk perceptions for lymphoma was there a significant difference between conditions for estimated 10-year-risk, with those in the ladder present condition reporting a lower estimated risk. Cooperative communication has been intensively considered for general wireless and sensor networks. However, it has been almost untouched in Space-Time-Frequency Coded Multi-band OFDM Ultra-Wideband (STFC MB-OFDM UWB) systems. This paper thus proposes two cross-layer designs for cooperative communication, namely Simple Cooperative Communication Scheme (SCCS) and Advanced Cooperative Communication Scheme (ACCS), in slow fading scenarios. In the former, nodes always cooperate with one another despite the possibly erroneous reception at the partner nodes, while in the latter, nodes cooperate only in the case of successful reception. The Impact Of Sex And Role Identity On Employees' Perceptions Of Managers' Communication Style, Michael Willemyns, Cynthia Gallois, Victor Callan

This study reports the findings of quantitative analyses of 157 employees’ perceptions of their managers in both negative and positive conversations. The main theoretical frameworks were Communication Accommodation Theory and Social Identity Theory. MANOVA analyses revealed that intergroup dynamics, including (“us vs. them” perceptions such as “distancing”, “dominant” “controlling”) were invoked in the negative conversations, especially with male managers, while in-group dynamics (e.g. “similar to me”, “supportive” and “friendly”) were invoked in the positive conversations, especially with female managers. Further, the results showed that managers were perceived more negatively by their same-sex than their opposite sex employees. Finally, high-roleidentifying employees …
