For liberal readers of Deleuze, one secret must forever be repressed: Deleuze hated. While his work teems with affirmation, even by way of his less than consensual but favored philosophical analogy of 'making children/monsters from the back,' there is one thinker too reviled for even Deleuze to thoroughly penetrate: Georges Bataille. While sparse, his remarks on Bataille betray the image of Deleuze as a perpetual affirmation machine. The Hilbert Huang Transform (HHT) is a powerful tool for Power Quality (PQ) classifications. One of the main advantages of the HHT is its ability to analyze non-stationary complex waveforms with very good time resolution. However, like other waveform classification techniques, it has difficulty in resolving the instant of sudden changes in the waveform. To overcome the above problems, SAX (Symbolic Aggregate ApproXimation) method is proposed to convert the signal into symbols which facilitates a pattern detector algorithm to identify the border of the stationary signals within a non-stationary signal. Vertical drains increase the rate of consolidation in soft soils by facilitating faster dissipation of excess pore water pressure through short, horizontal drainage paths. This paper presents an analytical solution for non-linear radial consolidation under equal-strain conditions incorporating smear but ignoring well resistance. Three aspects of non-linearity are considered: (a) non-Darcian flow, (b) a log-linear void-ratio-stress relationship; and (b) a log-linear void-ratio-permeability relationship. The analytical solution to non-linear radial consolidation can explicitly capture the behaviour of both overconsolidated and normally consolidated soils. A high-performance protective structure utilising non-composite steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich panels for protecting buildings and facilities against close-range detonation of VBIEDs and heavy ve-hicle impacts has been developed. Unlike other existing composite sandwich panels, no shear connec-tors between the steel faceplates are utilised to construct protective panels in order to simplify the con-struction process. The concrete core of the panel is included to provide the mass for increased inertia effects, and the steel faceplates are designed to develop tensile membrane resistance at large displace-ment to dissipate impulsive energy. The confinement of concrete columns using bonded FRP wraps has become a popular retrofit technique. Through extensive research in the last two decades, many stress-strain models have been developed for concrete in FRP-wrapped circular columns. All these models assume that the stress state is axisymmetric in an FRP-wrapped circular concrete column under concentric axial compression. This implies that the FRP wrap is assumed to be axisymmetric in geometry, but in reality such axisymmetry is not realised due to the existence of an overlapping zone. Microgrids are becoming important constituents of electric power distribution networks. Microgrids are typically comprised of both inverter interfaced (e.g. double-fed induction generator (DFIG), solar-photovoltaic (PV) system) and non-inverter interfaced (e.g. synchronous generator) renewable energy generators (REGs), hence their dynamic characteristics are significantly different from the conventional grids comprised of centralised synchronous generators. Different inherent characteristics of REGs, power dispatch levels, relative REG capacities, and external grid characteristics are some of the important features of significant interest in relation to microgrid dynamic behaviour.
