The work aims to study the root mean square (RMS) responses to acceleration input for four state variables: the mS vertical acceleration, the mS pitch angular acceleration and the front and rear deflections of the suspensions. A half-car two degree-of-freedom model of semi-active control scheme is analyzed and compared with the conventional passive suspension system. Frequency response of the transfer function for the heave, pitch of the sprung mass and suspension deflections are initially compared and then mean square analysis is utilized to see the effect of semi-active scheme. Knowledge of droplet generation during oxygen blowing, which can be characterized by a blowing number (NB), is crucial for better understanding of the fundamentals of the kinetics of oxygen steelmaking. A mathematical model has been developed considering the influence of surface tension on the blowing number (NB) using plant data from the study of Holappa and Jalkanen. The model predicts the droplet formation as a function of carbon, sulphur and oxygen contents in the metal, the temperature profile of the metal bath and lance height. The present paper compares thirteen shielding gases and their impact on FFR and fume particle while welding in the spray transfer regime. There was no obvious influence from the shielding gas on particle composition and fume particles were identified as (Fe,Mn)3O4. There was a slight peak shift that indicated that small levels of Mn, as detected by TEM-EDS, substituted for Fe in the Fe3O4 phase. Shielding gas composition is an important parameter for successful gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and has been shown to affect the fume formation rate (FFR). The quality of service (QoS) is a major concern in the design and management of Web service composition. Existing methods for QoS calculation either do not take the probability of path execution into consideration when QoSs are provided for different execution paths, or do not take different execution paths into consideration when a single integrated QoS is provided for the whole composition. In this paper, a comprehensive QoS analysis approach is proposed that calculates the QoS probability distribution by considering both the execution probability and execution conditions of each path in the service composition. In an ongoing research project focusing on improving learning in first year engineering mechanics, a framework for engineering mechanics knowledge has been identified. The framework has been applied to break down and categorise common mistakes made by students at four separate institutions to find out where students are struggling in their efforts to learn statics and dynamics. The framework separates knowledge into factual, procedural, conceptual, and principle areas in a semi hierarchical manner. A novel use of the spectral method to determine excess pore water pressure during vertical consolidation of multi-layered soil with time constant material properties is presented, considering a unit cell with combined vertical and radial drainage. Equal strain conditions are assumed in the analysis. The novel adoption of material properties that vary in a linear fashion with depth allows arbitrary distributions of properties to be modelled. By incorporating surcharge and vacuum loading that vary with both depth and time, a wide range of consolidation problems can be analysed. The fatigue properties of multiphase steels are an important consideration in the automotive industry. The different microstructural phases present in these steels can influence the strain life and cyclic stabilized strength of the material due to the way in which these phases accommodate the applied cyclic strain. Fully reversed strain-controlled low-cycle fatigue tests have been used to determine the mechanical fatigue performance of a dual-phase (DP) 590 and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) 780 steel, with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) used to examine the deformed microstructures.
