The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of online discussion board interactions of adult learners and their satisfaction with their experience. Specifically, this study's objectives were to examine the asynchronous volumetric and frequency textual communication patterns through online discussion boards and the association to adult learner satisfaction for 102 electronically surveyed adult learners at a mid-western university during the 2005-2006 academic year. Highly reliable (Cronbach alpha = 0.97) and valid data were collected from a learner satisfaction form developed specifically for the outcome variable o f this study. For more than a hundred years, Welsh language and culture have survived in the Chubut province of Patagonia, Argentina. While the various stages of Welsh settlement have been well recorded in English, Welsh and Spanish, little or no research has been published concerning the folklore of the pioneers' descendants who have clung to their Welsh heritage while unreservedly accepting an Argentine identity. During May and June of 1999, I spent five weeks immersed in the Welsh communities in order to test my hypothesis of survivals and/or marginal survivals of Welsh folklore. Placing accurate age constraints on near-axis lava flows has become increasingly important given the structural and volcanic complexity of the neovolcanic zone at fast spreading ridges. Geomagnetic paleointensity of submarine basaltic glass (SBG) holds promise for placing quantitative age constraints on near-axis flows. In one of the first extensive tests of paleointensity as a dating tool or temporal marker we present the results of over 550 successful SBG paleointensity estimates from 189 near-axis (<4 km) sites at the East Pacific Rise, 9°–10°N. Paleointensities range from 6 to 53 µT and spatially correspond to the pattern expected from known temporal variations in the geomagnetic field. Samples within and adjacent to the axial summit trough (AST) have values approximately equal to or slightly higher than the present-day. Samples out to 1–3 km from the AST have values higher than the present-day, and samples farther off axis have values lower than the present-day. The on-axis samples (<500 m from the AST) provide a test case for using models of paleofield variation for the past few hundred years as an absolute dating technique. Results from samples collected near a well-documented eruption in 1991–1992 suggest there may be a small negative bias in the paleointensity estimates, limiting resolution of the dating technique. Possible explanations for such a bias include local field anomalies produced by preexisting magnetic terrain; anomalously high magnetic unblocking temperatures, leading to a small cooling rate bias; and/or the possibility of a chemical remanence produced by in situ alteration of samples likely to have complicated thermal histories. Paleointensity remains useful in approximating age differences in young flows, and a clear along-axis paleointensity contrast near 9°50’N is suggestive of a ~150–200 year age difference. Paleointensity values of off-axis samples are generally consistent with rough age interpretations based on side scan data. Furthermore, spatial patterns in the paleointensity suggest extensive off-axis flow emplacement may occur infrequently, with recurrence intervals of 10–20 kyr. Results of a stochastic model of lava emplacement show that this can be achieved with a single distribution of flows, with flow size linked to time between eruptions.

This paper accesses Manx cultural survival by examining the work of one of the most controversial of Manx cultural figures, Mona Douglas, alongside one of the most well loved, T.E. Brown. It uses the literature in the Isle of Man over the period 1880-1980 as a means of identifying attitudes toward two successive waves of cultural survival and revival. Although there is no direct extant record of the language spoken by any of the peoples of ancient Callaecia, some linguistic information can be recovered through the analysis of the names (personal names, names of deities, ethnonyms, and place-names) that occur in Latin inscriptions and in ancient Greek and Latin sources. These names prove the presence of speakers of a Celtic language in this area, but there are also names of other origins.

The existence in Hispania of a very large number of place-names with the -briga ending has been used for several decades in reconstructing the languages spoken in pre-Roman times in the Iberian Peninsula. The phonetics of -briga strongly suggest that this place-name element was created by Celtic speakers. I offer a theoretical classification of these place-names considering at least four different types according to their internal structure. Several examples from Hispania are presented and classified in one of the four categories, followed by general comments on the implications of the distribution of the -briga place-names.

In this paper two Celtiberian place- and personal-names are examined: Moericus, the name of a Celtiberian war chief in the Second Punic War, and Complega, a town founded by Celtiberian mavericks and conquerd by praetor Fulvius Flaccus in 182 B.C. This indicates that two very important political and social institutions of the La Tène Celts are documented in Celtiberian Spain at an early date: the armed retinue that accompanied a chief with a name ended in –rix, and the armed mercenary bands that migrated long distances to conquer land and found new townships.

Following in the tradition of nineteenth-century Galician historians, who claimed to establish links between Galicia and other alleged Celtic nations, the Xeración Nós maintained the legacy of Celtic ancestry by importing and translating Irish literature. The most important translation for affirming the alleged Celtic identity of Xeración Nós was a selection of chapters from the Irish text Leabhar Gabhála(Book of Invasions). This article will provide a general overview of the historical works which established Galicia's Celtic ancestry. It will also consider why intellectuals chose to translate an Irish myth. This report uses three decades of U.S. Census data to assess employment patterns by race/ethnicity in the construction sector and construction trades in the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, and the four-county Milwaukee MSA. Historical participation of African Americans and Hispanics in construction occupations are tracked for 1980, 1990 and 2000, using Census Special Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Tabulation files. Worksite analysis and maps using Census 2000 place-of-work data only recently made available show where whites, African Americans, and Hispanic workers are employed. The Milwaukee job openings surveys were developed by the Employment and Training Institute in 1990s at the request of the City of Milwaukee. Five government partners collaborated on this ongoing Milwaukee Labor Market Project: the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Public Schools, Milwaukee Area Technical College, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the Private Industry Council of Milwaukee County. Milwaukee is the first major city in the nation to regularly study job openings in order to assess the number and type of jobs available and the level of skill training employers need to fill openings. This report provides an occupational drill down focusing on training needs identified for specific occupations and job titles identified by employers participating in the May 2006 Survey of Job Openings, conducted by the Employment and Training Institute for the Private Industry Council of Milwaukee County. Detailed job openings data are provided for six occupational areas where technical training is required: health care workers, manufacturing openings, computer specialists, selected service occupations, clerking and administrative support jobs, and jobs requiring a valid driver’s license or a commercial driver’s license.

This report provides racial/ethnicity and gender data on apprentices in the construction trades in the Milwaukee metro area from 1999 to 2005. The data has been supplied by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards (BAS). The report analyzes these records to drill down to the level of individual employers and joint apprenticeship committees, where decisions are made related to employment of apprentices. Report cards are provided for 475 Milwaukee area companies with construction trade apprentices, 14 Milwaukee and Waukesha area joint apprenticeship committees (JACs), one statewide committee, and one non-union program.

This report assesses employment, economic and welfare changes in Milwaukee ZIP code 53206 based on thirteen years of institutional data. Recently released Census 2000 transportation planning databases are used to provide a first-time analysis by race of jobs located within each central city neighborhood. State-of-the art purchasing power and retail sales leakage analyses developed by the Employment and Training Institute help communities and neighborhood-based businesses assess the spending power of each central city zipcode. The week of May 24, 2006, an estimated 24,056 full and part-time jobs were open for immediate hire in the four-county Milwaukee metropolitan area. These openings are the result of company expansions, labor shortages in difficult to fill positions, seasonal fluctuations, and normal turnover among the 747,554 employed workers in the area. The job vacancy study was prepared by the Employment and Training Institute for the Private Industry Council of Milwaukee County.
