In order to numerically simulate the wake of an automotive cooling fan, the FLUENT Fan Model was adopted as a boundary condition in the simulation domain. The parameters …

A Framework For Completely Separating The Presentation And Logic Of Web-Based Applications., Shuling. Nie Jan 2002

A Framework For Completely Separating The Presentation And Logic Of Web-Based Applications., Shuling. Nie

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The use of the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW) has grown at a phenomenal rate. The Web has become the solution for information exchange, user interaction and business processing. However, building dynamic, interactive and maintainable Web-based applications is not an easy task. Technologies currently used for Web presentation generation do not separate the presentation and logic. This requires people of two different skill sets to be involved at the same time, therefore applications are difficult to develop and maintain. In recent years, several frameworks have been developed to remedy the problem. But they all have some limitations and …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Fluorescence spectroscopy of tryptophan residues is a valuable tool for dissecting the structure, function and dynamic behaviour of proteins. An important step in method development is the use of tryptophan analogues with unique photophysical properties that extend the utility of intrinsic protein fluorescence. Two difficulties limit the use of these analogues. Their structure, while similar to that of tryptophan, can perturb native protein structure resulting in misfolding or inactivity. There are also problems from an inability of tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase (TrpRS) to use these analogues as a substrate in the tRNA charging reaction. The tryptophan residue in rat parvalbumin F102W is …

Layered Approach To Persistency Modeling In Object-Oriented Environment., Kamran. Choudhery Jan 2002

Layered Approach To Persistency Modeling In Object-Oriented Environment., Kamran. Choudhery

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Object persistence is a fundamental feature of any object-oriented environment. Several programming language specifications do not include or discuss any method of providing persistence for objects. Several schemes have been developed for adding persistence in several different programming languages. Some of them require persistent objects to be allocated and treated differently than non-persistent objects, while some others require the programmer to provide vital parts of the persistence mechanism. It is desirable to make the persistence feature transparent, but the nature of object oriented programming makes it difficult. This thesis proposes an approach to build a persistency layer in an object …

Technologies Of Governance: The Convergence Of Risk And Discipline In An Open Custody Facility For Young Offenders., Dale A. Ballucci Jan 2002

Technologies Of Governance: The Convergence Of Risk And Discipline In An Open Custody Facility For Young Offenders., Dale A. Ballucci

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This paper expands current debates on governance within corrections by examining the relationship between rationales and technologies deployed in the governance of young female offenders. A detailed examination of formal corrections policies, policy manuals, and interviews with administrators and primary counsellors challenge the notion that there is a pre occupation with risk in contemporary penal practice and that risk rationales and technologies have displaced discipline as dominant strategies of governance. It is certainly true that the logic of risk is present in both discourse and practice and that their development has added a new dimension to the governing process. However, …
