Big Data Analytics For Complex Systems, Ashraf Mohamed Abou Tabl Sep 2019

Big Data Analytics For Complex Systems, Ashraf Mohamed Abou Tabl

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The evolution of technology in all fields led to the generation of vast amounts of data by modern systems. Using data to extract information, make predictions, and make decisions is the current trend in artificial intelligence. The advancement of big data analytics tools made accessing and storing data easier and faster than ever, and machine learning algorithms help to identify patterns in and extract information from data. The current tools and machines in health, computer technologies, and manufacturing can generate massive raw data about their products or samples. The author of this work proposes a modern integrative system that can …

Obstacle And Change Detection Using Monocular Vision, Ryan Bluteau Jun 2019

Obstacle And Change Detection Using Monocular Vision, Ryan Bluteau

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

We explore change detection using videos of change-free paths to detect any changes that occur while travelling the same paths in the future. This approach benefits from learning the background model of the given path as preprocessing, detecting changes starting from the first frame, and determining the current location in the path. Two approaches are explored: a geometry-based approach and a deep learning approach. In our geometry-based approach, we use feature points to match testing frames to training frames. Matched frames are used to determine the current location within the training video. The frames are then processed by first registering …

Variational Autoencoder Based Estimation Of Distribution Algorithms And Applications To Individual Based Ecosystem Modeling Using Ecosim, Sourodeep Bhattacharjee Jan 2019

Variational Autoencoder Based Estimation Of Distribution Algorithms And Applications To Individual Based Ecosystem Modeling Using Ecosim, Sourodeep Bhattacharjee

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Individual based modeling provides a bottom up approach wherein interactions give rise to high-level phenomena in patterns equivalent to those found in nature. This method generates an immense amount of data through artificial simulation and can be made tractable by machine learning where multidimensional data is optimized and transformed. Using individual based modeling platform known as EcoSim, we modeled the abilities of elitist sexual selection and communication of fear. Data received from these experiments was reduced in dimension through use of a novel algorithm proposed by us: Variational Autoencoder based Estimation of Distribution Algorithms with Population Queue and Adaptive Variance …
