While there is an increase of women working in campus recreation, there remains an underrepresentation of women in leadership roles within campus recreation and related industries. Not only can it be challenging for women to navigate male-dominated fields to achieve their desired position, but women experience difficulties once they finally obtain leadership roles. This study built upon the limited research conducted about the experiences of women leaders within campus recreation. The incidence of pertussis, a vaccine-preventable disease that can have severe complications in infants, has been increasing in the United States over the past three decades. Vaccine hesitancy and refusal have also increased and are associated with vaccination exemptions, which in turn are associated with outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, including pertussis. Understanding attitudes towards vaccinations and identifying geographic disparities of vaccination exemptions and pertussis risks is useful for guiding control programs. Food insecurity in the United States (U.S.) has been identified as a pressing public health problem, as it contributes to hunger, obesity, chronic disease, and poor overall health. Despite increased national attention to addressing issues of food insecurity in the general population, nearly nothing is known about food insecurity in the transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) community. National population-based surveys do not include information on gender identity, rendering this population nearly invisible to public health professionals.
