Low-Power Switched Capacitor Voltage Reference, Suheng Chen May 2009

Low-Power Switched Capacitor Voltage Reference, Suheng Chen

Doctoral Dissertations

Low-power analog design represents a developing technological trend as it emerges from a rather limited range of applications to a much wider arena affecting mainstream market segments. It especially affects portable electronics with respect to battery life, performance, and physical size. Meanwhile, low-power analog design enables technologies such as sensor networks and RFID. Research opportunities abound to exploit the potential of low power analog design, apply low-power to established fields, and explore new applications. The goal of this effort is to design a low-power reference circuit that delivers an accurate reference with very minimal power consumption. The circuit and device …

Physics Based Modeling Of Multiple Gate Transistors On Silicon-On-Insulator (Soi), Touhidur Rahman May 2009

Physics Based Modeling Of Multiple Gate Transistors On Silicon-On-Insulator (Soi), Touhidur Rahman

Doctoral Dissertations

G⁴FET is a novel device built on Silicon-on-Isulator (SOI). Due to the presence of Bulk-Si, it is impossible to have more than one gate for each transistor in conventional process technology. However, it is possible to have multiple gates for each transistor in SOI devices due to the presence of buried oxide, which can be used as an independent gate. Besides the oxide gates, junction gates can also be introduced. Due to the presence of the thin active layer, the junction gate can reach to the bottom and can be used to isolate and control the conduction in the transistors. …

Passive And Active Components Development For Broadband Applications, Song Lin May 2009

Passive And Active Components Development For Broadband Applications, Song Lin

Doctoral Dissertations

Recently, GaN HEMTs have been proven to have numerous physical properties, resulting in transistors with greatly increased power densities when compared to the other well-established FET technologies. This advancement spurred research and product development towards power-band applications that require both high power and high efficiency over the wide band. Even though the use of multiple narrow band PAs covering the whole band has invariably led to better performance in terms of efficiency and noise, there is an associated increase in cost and in the insertion loss of the switches used to toggle between the different operating bands. The goal, now, …

Characterization Of A 12-Bit Pipeline Analog To Digital Converter, Saeed Ramzi Ghezawi May 2009

Characterization Of A 12-Bit Pipeline Analog To Digital Converter, Saeed Ramzi Ghezawi

Masters Theses

This thesis presents the characterization of the 12-bit pipeline analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed by Mark Hale, Ph.D. graduate from the University of Tennessee. An overview of the pipeline ADC architecture is discussed first, and then the specifics of the testing procedure and results are detailed. The differential nonlinearity (DNL), integral nonlinearity (INL), DC offset error, and gain error for the pipeline ADC are the DC characteristics of interest. The DC characterization was performed in order to analyze the linearity of the ADC output over the analog input range. Additionally, the DNL and INL results were used to determine if the …

Nsms Probe Recorder Design And Development, Daniel S. Crews May 2009

Nsms Probe Recorder Design And Development, Daniel S. Crews

Masters Theses

The real-time Non-Contact Stress Measurement System (NSMS) currently used at AEDC calculates the vibration of rotating blades by capturing the time of arrival for each blade. The time of arrival is determined by a triggering circuit that is activated when the signal from the engine probe crosses a predetermined threshold. In its current configuration, the NSMS system only saves post-processed data. A system that records the raw signals from the probes was developed to allow reprocessing the data whenever necessary. The probe recorder system consists of analog-to-digital conversion hardware to capture the signals, data storage for the files, and digital-to-analog …
