The Relationship Between Expectation, Belief, And Anxiety In A Speaking Situation, George (Tod) William Bossert
The Relationship Between Expectation, Belief, And Anxiety In A Speaking Situation, George (Tod) William Bossert
Doctoral Dissertations
Subjects were given bogus test results that indicated they would be either "relatively calm" or "highly anxious" in a speaking situation. They were also given either an anxiety-okay belief or an anxiety-not-okay belief. The expectations and beliefs given subjects by the experimenter were called manipualted expectations and beliefs. Subjects also filled out forms indicating whether they expected to be calm or anxious and whether they believed anxiety was or was not okay. The expectations and beliefs of the subject were called prior expectation and beliefs.
Each subject was given an expectation and a belief and then requested to make a …
Obscenity Standards In Canada And The United States: A Comparative Study In Constitutional Law, Ronald Edward Dean
Obscenity Standards In Canada And The United States: A Comparative Study In Constitutional Law, Ronald Edward Dean
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to study the comparative constitutional development of obscenity law in Canada and the United States. The research focuses on analysis of case law with particular emphasis of Supreme Court decisions in the two countries. Obscenity law is not static, but is, rather, an active and on-going area of constitutional law.
The central problem in the legal approach to obscenity has been the development of a definition. The original conceptualization of obscenity for both Canada and the United States came from an English decision in 1868, which dominated the field until the late 1950's. The …
Moisture Diffusion In The Cured Burley Tobacco Leaf, Linus Ross Walton
Moisture Diffusion In The Cured Burley Tobacco Leaf, Linus Ross Walton
Doctoral Dissertations
Mathematical models for the diffusion of moisture in the lamina and midrib portions of the cured hurley tobacco leaf were developed and their applicability experimentally determined. The lamina and midrib were geometrically represented by the infinite thin sheet and the in finite circular cylinder, respectively. The models were based on the vapor diffusion equation and expressed the average lamina and midrib moisture content as a function of time in the form of an exponential series. Diffusion coefficients for application of the models were determined experimentally. Sorption and desorption of the cured lamina and midrib were experimentally determined at temperatures of …
Design, Construction, And Agrotechnical Evaluation Of A Vibratory Furrow Opening Tool For Minimum Tillage Planters., Fred Douglas Tompkins
Design, Construction, And Agrotechnical Evaluation Of A Vibratory Furrow Opening Tool For Minimum Tillage Planters., Fred Douglas Tompkins
Doctoral Dissertations
Minimum tillage practices enhance conservation of soil and moisture resources and reduce the mechanical and labor energy inputs required for crop production. However, obtaining crop stands which are comparable to those established by conventional tillage methods has been difficult with minimum tillage equipment. Also, draft force require-ments for minimum tillage systems are substantial, particularly when the system is operated under conditions where adequate soil penetration can be achieved only by adding weight to the machine. In an attempt to overcome these problems, an experimental vibratory furrow opening tool was designed for use with a minimum tillage planter system. The vibratory …

The first topic to be considered is the Author’s purpose in writing the report. He maintains that his purpose is purely existential, and the reader must accept this reason. The next topic dealt …
The Value System As A Source Of Political Attitudes, William S. Maddox
The Value System As A Source Of Political Attitudes, William S. Maddox
Masters Theses
The field of political psychology focuses on specific political behavior as it relates to a total measure of the individual. This research effort chose as a possible summation of that totality the value system, defined as any individual's description of his total image of the world and the behavior which he prefers in dealing with that world. Within this perspective, political attitudes are the result of the expression of a broad and abstract value system with reference to a specific attitude object.
The research design utilized Q methodology to gather empirical descriptions of values systems toward a political issue, i.e., …

Application Of Air Flow Measurements To The Determination Of Cotton Fiber Specific Surface Area And Maturity, William Paul Hawkins
Application Of Air Flow Measurements To The Determination Of Cotton Fiber Specific Surface Area And Maturity, William Paul Hawkins
Masters Theses
An instrumentation system and measurement techniques were developed to determine if the relationships for specific surface area and maturity used with the Arealometer were applicable to a system using a larger specimen size and random fiber orientation. Air flow resistance was determined for various varieties with a wide range of specific surface area and maturity. Fiber orientation effects were found to be negligible and the optimum specimen plug lengths and air flow rate were determined. It was concluded that the Arealometer flow equation performed satisfactorily with the experimental system, providing compatible specific surface area values and indications of maturity.

Observations On Metabolism Of Selected Minerals In The Developing Horse, Carol A. Clark
Masters Theses
Preliminary base values for normal blood and milk composition were obtained from Quarter Horse mares and their foals. These values appeared comparable to those reported in the literature, with the exception of calcium and phosphorus contents which were somewhat low. Magnesium content also was low in the plasma but appeared high in the milk. These figures suggest that there may be a wider range of normal values than has previously been recognized. Radiobalance studies with 45Ca, 32P and 65Zn indicated that blood movement and excretion patterns for these ponies were similar to those reported for other species. …
