Stocker calves are at high risk of contracting the disease through many stressors like weaning, transportation, commingling, etc. The purpose of this project was to test if externally observed physical characteristics of calves on arrival at a stocker facility can be used to predict calfhood vaccination status determined based on antibody titer levels. Phytophthora capsici, a plant pathogenic oomycete, is the causal agent of the vegetable disease Phytophthora blight of pepper and cucurbits. Since the identification of P. capsici in 1922, a significant amount of research has been conducted to understand its biology and disease management. It has been hypothesized that environmental degradation, specifically from chemical pollution, may cause darters of the subgenus Ulocentra (Family Percidae) to develop interrupted supratemporal canals (part of the cephalic sensory system) as individuals mature. Preserved museum specimens of Etheostoma simoterum exhibit uninterrupted and interrupted supratemporal canals. The objectives of my study were to observe the Etheostoma simoterum and their supratemporal canal, document if the supratemporal canals are interrupted or uninterrupted, and to determine whether frequency of canal interruptions s vary based on geographical location and source of aquatic impairment.

This work explores the climatologies of isolated tornadoes and tornado outbreaks across the state of Tennessee, a state that in some years experiences more tornadoes than states in the heart of Tornado Alley. Part one assesses tornado frequency characteristics and fatality statistics within 100 km of three major Tennessee cities (Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville) between 1950 and 2013. Nashville reported the most tornadoes, (426) but Memphis reported the most fatalities. Knoxville and Nashville tornadoes occurred on fewer days, while Memphis tornadoes were spread across more tornado days. Through a 4.5 percent sales and use tax on the consumption of aviation fuel, users help to fund the continued improvement and maintenance of aviation facilities around the state. Aircraft refueling operations associated with the FedEx “SuperHub” in Memphis were responsible for two-thirds of the TETF’s revenue for Fiscal Year 2014. Biogeochemical cycling of soil carbon (C) is heavily influenced by conservation agricultural (CA) practices. This study examined SOC stability under three CA practices: reduced nitrogen (N) fertilizer application rate, cover cropping, and zero-tillage implemented for 31 years. Respiration rates measured from a 602-day incubation period were fitted to a double-pool first order exponential model of SOC decomposition. The active [respired] SOC pool showed distinct differences between applications of reduced (34N kg ha^-1 [-1]) and high fertilization rates (101N kg ha^-1) combined with tillage, and suggest that high fertilizer applications with conventional tillage allocated more C into a …

The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) has restored some native warm-season grasses (NWSG), but grassland birds continued to decline (-1.1% annually) partly due to the limited acreage converted (1% of southeastern US).
