In the context of late medieval Iberia, lovesickness as a real disease was both treatable and threatening to one’s lived experience. Different forms of lovesick cures, from both learned and vernacular healers, arose from the Galenic regime of the humoral body. Cures such as charms, mixtures, and verbal expressions helped heal lovesick patients, as is shown in the archive through sources like remedy books and literary texts depicting lovesick affliction. Much of the current scholarship on lovesickness focuses on medieval medicine through the archive. This study explored the relationship between motivation and performance by examining factors, such as feedback and individual differences, posited to influence motivation and performance. The most damaging form of performance feedback, destructive critical, was contrasted with constructive critical feedback to determine its impact on motivation. Expectancy theory, a mainstay theory in research on motivation, served as the theoretical framework to study motivation. An individual difference variable, resilience, was examined in relation to performance. These relationships were explored through the lens of both actual and perceived performance. Many promising memory technologies, such as non-volatile, storage-class memories and high-bandwidth, on-chip RAMs, are beginning to emerge. Since each of these new technologies present tradeoffs distinct from conventional DRAMs, next-generation systems are likely to include multiple tiers of memory storage, each with their own type of devices. To efficiently utilize the available hardware, such systems will need to alter their data management strategies to consider the performance and capabilities provided by each tier.

The works of William Shakespeare are wide and universal. His work has been and is still consistently performed in numerous countries and venues across the globe. This thesis focuses on two performances of Titus Andronicus, one of Shakespeare’s most controversial plays, in South Africa. One performance, directed by Dieter Reible in 1970, was produced during apartheid. The second, directed by Gregory Doran, was performed in 1995, just after the end of apartheid. The purpose of this study was to examine personal characteristics of adolescent/young adult percussionists who were successful in their audition for a highly competitive, performing arts unit (i.e. a World-Class junior drum & bugle corps). We were particularly interested in investigating the predictive influence of daily practice time and two psychological variables related to optimal performance (i.e., dispositional flow and musical performance anxiety-MPA).

An aircraft will encounter freezing rain, snow, and ice during ground operation and flight. In cold conditions, ice may form on th einlet and internal stators and rotors of the gas turbine engine. When ice accumulates on blades (and/or stators), the aerodynamic characteristics of the blades change due to the altered size, shape, and roughness. This change causes the blade to no longer operate at its design point and decreases compressor performance.
