Forging A New Identity: Report Of The Metropolitan University Steering Group, Metropolitan University Steering Group
Maine's Metropolitan University
In this report, the MUSG offers recommendations and a timeline for necessary administrative actions to be taken by the USM President, Provost, a new MU senior leadership officer, Deans, and the steering group, itself. Budgetary recommendations address resource needs to achieve Carnegie Classification in 2020, as well as the MU-related needs of the new senior leadership position, students, faculty, staff, and community. These total some $125,000 in one-time expenditures and $925,000 in annual operating costs, the latter possibly to be diminished by reallocation of savings realized through the UMS’ newly-centralized administrative services.

Education Technology
The purpose of this report is to explore the expansion of the MLTI program that occurred in the 2013‐2014 academic year. In June 2014, over 400 individuals from Maine public schools were solicited to participate in a survey examining their experiences with MLTI technology in their schools. In 2013‐2014, for the first time since the inception of MLTI in 2002, the program shifted to a multiple‐device solution, which offered schools the opportunity to select from a range of device choices, including a MacBook Air, iPad, or HP Probook. Both the MacBook Air and the HP Probook were traditionally formatted laptops, …

Muskie School Capstones and Dissertations
The purpose of this capstone is to better understand the successes and lessons learned in the development and implementation of successful programs to help guide future decision making when planning a new program. The study relies on semi-structured interviews with Telehealth forum members and staff from a select number of telemedicine programs for its primary data source. Initially, secondary data sources and members from the Maine Telehealth Forum were used to inform the development of the list of programs to be interviewed. The programs interviewed include; a behavioral health, two specialties, a home health, a primary care, and a hospital …

Self-Regulated Strategy Development (Srsd) For Writing: A Tier 2 Intervention For Fifth Grade, Christina A. Flanders Psyd
All Student Scholarship
The purpose of this study was to examine whether Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) for writing could be used as a Tier 2 intervention to improve the writing of fifth grade students identified as performing below the 50th percentile on AIMSweb curriculum-based measures of correct writing sequences (WE-CBM CWS). Results of RMANOVA indicated that students in the SRSD Group made significant improvements in their WE-CBM mean score compared to the Control Group from pre- to post-test. Additional analyses using a modified WE-CBM that added one minute for students to organize their writing thoughts (EWE-CBM) did not show significant improvements to mean …

Webster's Geometry; Or, The Irreducible Duchess, Benjamin Bertram Phd
Faculty Publications
This study of geometry, gender, and skepticism in John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi argues that the play leaves us in a hall of mirrors, a horror show of optical tricks, delusion, narcissism, and perspectivism from which there seems to be no escape, no masterpiece of God’s creation upholding reality beyond sensory images. In the absence of a transcendental referent, the Duchess’ willful and fearful journey «into the wilderness» – the life she leads as a result of her furtive marriage to her steward Antonio – becomes an alternative to both the public sphere mapped by divine patterns of order …

Health System Reform
There are growing concerns about the current and future state of rural health. Despite decades of policy efforts to stabilize rural health systems through a range of policies and loan and grant programs, accelerating rural hospital closures combined with rapid changes in private and public payment strategies have created widespread concern that these solutions are inadequate for addressing current rural health challenges. The rural health system of today is the product of legacy policies and programs that often do not “fit” current local needs. Misaligned incentives undermine high-value and efficient care delivery. While there are limitations related to scalability in …
