Boundary Breaking: An Emergent Model For Leadership Development, Charles Webber, Jan Robertson
Boundary Breaking: An Emergent Model For Leadership Development, Charles Webber, Jan Robertson
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
We summarize the results of a cross-cultural on-line project for graduate students in educational leadership at the University of Calgary in Canada and the University of Waikato in New Zealand. A conceptual framework for the collaborative Internet project is presented in conjunction with a summary of relevant literature and participant views of the project. Finally, the authors propose a model for on-line graduate learning in educational leadership with the following components: construction of meaning, provision of a forum for discussion, validation of personal knowledge, generative learning, formal and informal leadership, sense of community, and international perspectives.

Feeding Mechanism Of The Atlantic Guitarfish Rhinobatos Lentiginosus: Modulation Of Kinematic And Motor Activity, C. D. Wilga, Philip J. Motta
Philip J. Motta
The kinematics and muscle activity pattern of the head and jaws during feeding in the Atlantic guitarfish Rhinobatos lentiginosus are described and quantified using high-speed video and electromyography to test hypotheses regarding the conservation and modulation of the feeding mechanism. Prey is captured by the guitarfish using suction. Suction capture, bite manipulation and suction transport behaviors in the guitarfish are similar to one another in the relative sequence of kinematic and motor activity, but can be distinguished from one another by variation in absolute muscle activation time, in the presence or absence of muscle activity and in the duration of …

Institutional Arrangements For Watershed Management: A Case Study Of Arenal, Costa Rica, December 1998, Bruce Aylward, Alvaro Fernández González
Economy and Resource Management [Monteverde Institute]
The CREED Costa Rica project conducted an exhaustive quantitative inquiry into the economic factors that determine land use in the Río Chiquito watershed of Lake Arenal, Costa Rica, and found that livestock production is likely to produce positive hydrological externalities. This paper integrates these results into an application of the Institutional Analysis and Development Framework that is informed by a participatory process conducted with watershed stakeholders. The paper identifies physical measures, institutional arrangements and incentive mechanisms to stimulate improved watershed management in Río Chiquito by expanding the analysis beyond just the internalisation of hydrological externalities, to consideration of the larger …
