Estructura Y Sentido En Las "Novelas Ejemplares De Cíbola", Dulce Maria H. Lawrence
Master's Theses

Educational Ability, Practice And Short Term Memory, Barbara Jean Arthur
Educational Ability, Practice And Short Term Memory, Barbara Jean Arthur
Master's Theses
Thirty-six fourth grade students were selected and classified into one of three groups on the basis of participation in the DISTAR Reading Program, educational ability as measured by the STEA and a reading readiness factor, Each group received two tests of short term memory (STM ) involving auditory presentation and either auditory or visual recall after a retention interval of 4, 8 or 12 seconds. Analysis verified previous research in this area with respect of task difficulty, retention as a function of interval length and acoustic similarity of response errors. Neither educational ability nor practice elevated the students' performance on …
The Relationship Of Resting Cardiac Activity And Locus Of Control To Impulse Control, Carol Kress Coukos
The Relationship Of Resting Cardiac Activity And Locus Of Control To Impulse Control, Carol Kress Coukos
Master's Theses
The relationship between the autonomic nervous system and various personlity characteristics has become a popular area of scientific investigation with the advent of accurate means of measurement of autnomic nervous system activity. The act of measuring autonomic nervous system activity carries great clinical value. Clinicians practicing systematic desensitization use the galvanic skin resistance -as an indication of whether the stimulus in question produces too much· anxiety for the client. The clinician, of course, also relies on the client's verbal response. Measurement of galvanic skin resistance provides additional information for the clinician. The clinician can draw from more than one response, …
Through Love To Death : The Structure Of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's The House Of Life, Michael Dennis Hughs
Through Love To Death : The Structure Of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's The House Of Life, Michael Dennis Hughs
Master's Theses
This study offers an explanation of the structure of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's The House of Life. It does not attempt to elevate Rossetti to a new position of pre-eminence among the Victorians or to make extravagant claims for h1s genius. What it tries to provide is a descriptive analysis or the poems taken together as a unit of meaning. No effort has been made to deal adequately with Rossetti's biography nor his output in the realm of painting. While these matters certainly have an important place in Rossetti studies, there is also a place for an intensive study of the …

A Study Of The Electrolytic Oxidation Of Antioxidants At A Stationary Platinum Microelectrode, Mark Anthony Forte
Master's Theses
Phenolic antioxidants have a Wide variety of uses. They are em- ployed to prevent oxidative and thermal degradation of everything from plastics to foodstuffs. They may even have potential as carcinostatic agents. In general, they act as chain terminators in free radical type reactions.

The Progressive Impact Of The Creative Artists Of Á La Recherche Du Temps Perdu Upon Marcel's Perception Of The Essential Reality, Heloise Bertman Levit
Master's Theses
Á la recherche du temps perdu is a complex multi faceted novel. It spans sixteen volumes and attempts to deal with a panoply of themes and emotions, which are examined separately and finally combined to show the underlying relationship and basic unity between seemingly isolated elements. Childhood, memory, time, love, music , art, sleep, society, the historic France are major preoccupations of the narrator and occupy a major position in the book.
Melanin In The Longnose Gar, Lepisosteus Osseus, George William Minson
Melanin In The Longnose Gar, Lepisosteus Osseus, George William Minson
Master's Theses
Examination was made of the melanophores of three Lepisosteus osseus (longnose gar), one dark, one intermediate, and one normal in pigmentation. Melanophore counts were made per mm2 from anterior, mid, and posterior areas of both the dorsal and ventral surfaces of each of the three fish. The data were tested with a four-factor analysis of variance. By microscopic examination the melanophores were classified as to branching in the sample areas. Neither number of melanophores nor degree of branching explained divergence in pigmentation. However, divergence was attributed to the melanosome color and concentration in the melanophores.
An Atomic Absorption Method For Determining Micromolar Quantities Of Primary Aliphatic Amines In The Presence Of Secondary And Tertiary Aliphatic Amines, Nathalie Harwood Perkins
An Atomic Absorption Method For Determining Micromolar Quantities Of Primary Aliphatic Amines In The Presence Of Secondary And Tertiary Aliphatic Amines, Nathalie Harwood Perkins
Master's Theses
A method for the determination of primary aliphatic amines in the presence of secondary and tertiary amines is described. The primary amine is reacted wit ha complexing reagent containing cupric chloride, salicylaldehyde and triethanolamine. The copper complex formed is extracted into 10% hexanol in toluene. The amount of copper in the toluene layer is determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. This is a measure of the primary amine in the sample. The method can be successfulyl applied to both monoamines and diamines as well as an amino alcohol. Data for the analysis is + 0.05% at the 2% level and below. …
The Effects Of Topical Nitrogen Mustard On The Pigment System In Pet/Wmr Mouse Epidermis, Ronald Lee Salisbury
The Effects Of Topical Nitrogen Mustard On The Pigment System In Pet/Wmr Mouse Epidermis, Ronald Lee Salisbury
Master's Theses
Miniature melanocytes have been observed scattered among the typical melanocytes in the skin of the PET/Wmr mouse strain, They are weakly DOPA reactive and their cell bodies and nuclei are one quarter the size of those in typical melanocytes, Both populations reach a peak during the first postnatal week and then gradually disappear within the following three weeks. The miniatures appear very early and are among the last cells to disappear. During the first postnatal week, their population remains relatively constant against a radically changing population of typical melanocytes. That they may represent a stage in the development of typical …

Populations Of Lepomis Auritus (Redbreast Sunfish) In A Thermally Influenced Section Of The James River, Virginia, John Rawls Saecker
Master's Theses
From October 1971 - September 1973, electrofishing was used to collect 1004 specimens of Lepomis auritus (year classes 0 - V) from a thermally influenced section of the James River near Blemo Bluff, Virginia. Collections of fish from the natural and heated water temperature habitats were analyzed as to year classes, season, length and sex.
Test For A Learned Drinking Response : Support For Appetitive Preparedness, Brian L. West
Test For A Learned Drinking Response : Support For Appetitive Preparedness, Brian L. West
Master's Theses
Seligman, Ives, Ames and Mineka (1970a) have suggested that by the nature of the stimulus-response association in appetitive states a prepared mechanism using "mild" deprivation cues exists which will activate an appetitional resolution. Pairing of a neutral stimulus with this prepared mechanism results in a conditioned stimulus capable of electing the drinking response. Contrary to this hypothesis, Mowrer (1956) posited that a water deprived state induces an emotional reaction or "thirst fear." It is assumed that reduction of this stimulus may be accomplished by means of alleviating the deprived state. A conditioned external stimulus can therefore elicit the drinking response …
Drafting For The Optimum Marital Deduction, J. Rodney Johnson
Drafting For The Optimum Marital Deduction, J. Rodney Johnson
Law Faculty Publications
While the marital deduction provided for by federal estate tax law may not necessarily be the controlling factor in planning the will of a married person, it is certainly one of the most important factors because of the sheer magnitude of this deduction up to 50% of the adjusted gross estate. A direct consequence of this importance is reflected in the fact that the marital deduction has become the most written-about topic in the estate planning area. Most of what has been written about this subject can be divided into the two following categories: ( 1 ) an explanation of …
Daddy May Bring Home Some Bread, But He Don't Cut No Ice: The Economic Plight Of The Father Figure In Black American Literature, Daryl Cumber Dance
Daddy May Bring Home Some Bread, But He Don't Cut No Ice: The Economic Plight Of The Father Figure In Black American Literature, Daryl Cumber Dance
English Faculty Publications
This tale is a forceful and eloquent commentary on the American economic system which conspires to make it impossible for the Black man to acquire anything more than a mere biscuit, no matter how he plays the economic game. If he plays according to the rules, the rules are changed rather than reward him with his just due. If he fails to play according to the rules, others are rewarded for their efforts and he is punished for his failure. He's damned if he does, and he's damned if he doesn't. Everyone knows enough about the history of this country …
A Single-Trust Marital Deduction Will, J. Rodney Johnson
A Single-Trust Marital Deduction Will, J. Rodney Johnson
Law Faculty Publications
This article will offer a basic form that can be easily altered to respond to the needs of many clients who have a moderate estate and wish to take advantage of the estate tax marital deduction. For purposes of discussion, it will be assumed that the estate is $250,000 or less and that the client has expressed the following: "I want my wife to have all of the income from my property throughout her life and then the property should pass to my children. In the event that the income from my property is insufficient to meet my wife's needs, …
Effects Of The Toxins Of The Ectoproct, Lophopodella Carteri, On Oxygen Consumption In Gill Tissues Of The Bluegill, Lepomis Macrochirus, Barbara Harper Green
Effects Of The Toxins Of The Ectoproct, Lophopodella Carteri, On Oxygen Consumption In Gill Tissues Of The Bluegill, Lepomis Macrochirus, Barbara Harper Green
Master's Theses
Large and small bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus, were exposed to homogena tes of Lophopodella carteri, an ectoproct that contains substances toxic to some gilled vertebrates. Oxygen consumption tests on the excised gill tissues of the bluegill indicated that the ectoproct toxins caused a lowering of oxygen consumption of the gill tissues. Oxygen consumption of the gill tissues of the smaller fish was reduced to a greater extent than that of larger fish. An inverse relationship was found be tween the temperature of the medium and the period of time for death to occur. It is proposed that the toxins cause physiological …
A Partial Test Of The Contingency Model On Adult-Led Groups Of Children, Jeffrey Wayne Jones
A Partial Test Of The Contingency Model On Adult-Led Groups Of Children, Jeffrey Wayne Jones
Master's Theses
The problem was to test the applicability of Fiedler's contingency model on 15 adult-led groups of children in a field situation. The effectiveness of high and low least preferred co-worker (LPC) leaders on structured and unstructured group tasks was investigated when leader member relations were good and leaders had strong power. The data were analyzed in a 2 x 2 factorial design using the analysis of variance. None of the F tests reached statistical significance, thus the model was not supported. Several possible reasons for the findings were given as well as suggestions for future research.

An Analysis Of Form And Vision In Chekhov's Major Plays, Mary Moylan Oppenheimer
An Analysis Of Form And Vision In Chekhov's Major Plays, Mary Moylan Oppenheimer
Master's Theses
In his art Chekhov confronted and gave expression to the major questions of man's existence. It is the thesis of this paper that Chekhov saw the central fact and problem of life as that of displacement: that in life man frequently finds himself "out of place" either psychologically or physically (sometimes both) and that inevitably he is completely displaced by death.
The Effects Of Crowding On The Dominance Behavior Of Laboratory Rats As Assessed By Three Measures Of Dominance, Barbara C. Worthington
The Effects Of Crowding On The Dominance Behavior Of Laboratory Rats As Assessed By Three Measures Of Dominance, Barbara C. Worthington
Master's Theses
The present study was designed to assess behavioral changes in social dominance, which may accompany or be affected by short term crowding and any adrenal enlargement which may be a concomitant of crowding. To avoid methodological inaccuracy and further establish whether different measures of dominance would accrue the same results a multimethod approach suggested by Howells and Kise (1974) was employed. · Additionally sequence of test presentation was considered and both male and female subjects were used to determine if the measures differentially discriminated between the sexes.
This experiment as designed to evaluate the effects of crowding (independent variable) on …

The Effect Of Interpersonal Trust, S̲ Naivete, And The Use Of Deception Upon S̲ Perceived Demand Awareness, Robert George De Laney
Master's Theses
The present experiment was designed to study the effect of the variables of naivete concerning psychological experimenta tion, the use of deception, and level of trust on a S's ability to become demand aware. It was hypothesized tha t the demand awareness of high and low trust s would be differentially affected by their level of knowledge about psychological experi menta tion, and by the type of explanation given to them (none, honest, deceptive) as to the purpose of the experiment. Non significant results indica ted no support for this hypothesis. Difficulties with the subjective aspect of the demand awareness …
