Peer mentoring is a growing trend utilized to improve graduation and retention rates of college students across campuses. It is a strategy being used either outside or inside the classroom to assist students with learning, connecting to resources, and increasing student success in gateway courses. Southwest State University is an example of an institution, initially funded through a Title V grant, using peer mentoring in gateway courses. This dissertation is a qualitative study utilizing action research methods to develop a case study on the experience of urban public elementary school Native American students in collaborative mathematics activities. Data was collected with observations, mathematics assessments, and interviews to study how public school Native first graders experience collaborative mathematics activities when culturally modified with Indigenous ways of knowing and being? This qualitative biographical case study explored tacit knowledge in relation to the professional practice of one educational leader in a New Mexico community college. In the current era of standards-based reforms and a new accountability movement research has credited data driven decision making as key to successful schools. Teachers and principals' ability to use data can improve student achievement and move schools forward. This dissertation explores teacher's and principal's perceptions of the successful use of New Mexico Standards Based Assessment student achievement data as it relates to four themes: professional development, collaboration, school and district systems, and leadership. This qualitative study was concerned with the Kichwa values to develop a Kichwa language program for Indigenous children from birth to five-years old from El Centro Infantil Alejo Saes in Quito City. The parents of these children come from the Puesitús Indigenous community located in Chimborazo Province in the south of Ecuador. In the 1950s, these Indigenous Peoples migrated from their community to the city due to the lack of good living conditions and education. This qualitative case study explores teacher efficacy in the decision making process within the Response to Intervention (RtI) Framework: from the initial Student Assistance Team (SAT) process through the Tier II interventions and the possible referral to Tier III. The study focuses on one elementary school of a rural northern New Mexico school district, collecting data from certified regular education teachers, the current principal, the former principal and the district Special Education Director.
