The purpose of this study is to understand the importance of e-mentoring and the role it plays in social construction of knowledge in online learning environments. Very little research that specifically focuses on the role of e-mentoring has been done. Both qualitative and quantitative research has shown that good mentoring programs can lead to greater productivity and satisfaction in the work place. However, most research on mentoring is focused on face to face traditional mentoring.
