An analysis of Corrales, New Mexicos MainStreet business district and local market area. Demographic, housing, and economic characteristics of both areas are described. Pull factors and location quotients are used to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the MainStreet district. Data for the MainStreet district and the village of Corrales are compared to Sandoval County and the state. Concludes with a discussion of local opportunities and challenges. A PowerPoint presentation of the findings from a study done by the UNM Bureau of Business and Economic Research and UNM-Taos on the Taos regions business assets. The Taos economic region is described and illustrated with maps. Using a location quotient analysis, pull factors for local industries and resulting leakage were determined. Results of a survey of Taos businesses are also discussed. Recommendations for the business community are given: capitalizing on the region's assets; attracting industries with higher employment multipliers; and stopping leakages.'

This study has two main objectives: 1) to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the retail and services sectors in Grants, and 2) to consider ways to improve conditions faced by businesses in the communitys downtown. The economy of Grants (or any other community) can be understood in terms of its exchange of goods and services with other areas.
