The purpose of this study is to measure the economic impact of arts and cultural industries in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. This research draws upon data from secondary data sources, including a comprehensive set of records of individual employers, and information gathered from primary investigation of the cultural content and revenue sources of nearly 400 businesses and institutions. This study also provides data on the impact of art and cultural activities on public finances, including the city, county and state. All measurements are for calendar year 2004.

An analysis of the Chama, New Mexico community and market area. Socioeconomic data, including population growth and selected demographic, economic, and housing characteristics are described. The author discusses the significant economic challenges facing Chama, which are due to its isolated, rural location; lack of exporting industries; and need for investment in infrastructure. Chamas only major industry is tourism, primarily the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Using a location quotient analysis, the author discusses the area's pull factors and leakages in retail and services. The MainStreet Service Area and regional market area are described and illustrated. Demographic, income, and housing data for Springer, Colfax County, and the Northeast County Region (Colfax, Harding, Mora, San Miguel and Union counties) are analyzed. Using location quotients and pull factors, the author assesses the local economys strengths and weaknesses, and then lists several recommendations for revitalizing the area.
