This study examined the impact of cultural representation on achievement for minority students academically and socially across diverse contexts. Recognizing the importance of cultural diversity in educational and youth mentoring settings, this research explores how the representation of various cultural identities, including race, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status, influences student achievement outcomes. Coming from a background in community based nonprofit organizations, I have seen how black and brown students respond in classroom and out-of-school time settings when having come in contact with teachers and mentors of similar culture. This research paper explores the prevalence, consequences, and mitigation strategies for workplace violence in healthcare. The literature focuses on the importance of leadership’s involvement of the implementation of change, providing programing, and obtaining buy-in from staff to combat what has consistently been a factor leading to employee burnout, assaultive behavior, and compromised patient safety. It shows that workplace violence has been a constant in healthcare, however, has escalated post COVID-19 pandemic. This capstone delves into the contemporary challenge of organizational change, specifically focusing on leadership's influence on employee openness to change. The objective is to provide leaders with practical tools for fostering employee receptivity to change in today's dynamic work environment. This study employs a mixed-method approach involving a literature review and a quantitative survey. The research reveals a positive relationship between transformational leadership and employee openness to change. A 21-item survey evaluates the correlation between five subdimensions of transformational leadership and employee openness. Gender (In)Equity In Global Mental Health Research: A Call To Action, The Women In Global Mental Health Research Group, Kelly Rose-Clarke

In this commentary, we build on work by Gurung and colleagues which highlighted gender inequity in the global mental health research workforce in Nepal (Gurung et al., 2021). We seek to increase awareness of the under-representation of women in global mental health research and its consequences, and we call for change. By women, we refer to all people who identify as women, including trans people. The commentary is informed by conversations with women who are global mental health researchers in the Global North and South at various stages of their careers.

Strategic planning is a common exercise at many colleges and universities, and is required by at least one accrediting body. Literature suggests that strategic planning quite often results in plans that are never implemented. Reasons cited include but are not limited to: lack of stakeholder involvement, so-called strategic visions that don’t translate into realistic plans, and a lack of needed financial resources to put plans into action, and insufficient project management experience. This research intends to make a case that leaders with emotional intelligence are the key to maintaining good employees using two primary resources both academic journals and employee questionnaires completed by non-profit area agency staff. This literature review will make a compelling argument that emotional intelligence in leaders is a pertinent characteristic when determining the cause behind staff retention. It will conclude with ways in which leaders can learn emotional intelligence and use that knowledge to ensure job satisfaction and strengthen staff retention.

When a change is proposed, an employee’s resistance can be detrimental to the effort. This research focused on determining the best ways leaders can support employees through organizational change. Common mistakes leaders make are poor communication and not understanding the emotional response employees experience. A change process involves more than the change itself. The purpose of this project is to divine the best practice for leading an age-diverse organization through leadership change. A literature review was completed to review the knowledge about organizational change, age-diversity and leadership during organizational change. The literature suggested the need for a clear vision, tailored communication, employee involvement, understanding how change impacts employees, perceptions of change, and generational perceptions (taking age related traits and needs into consideration). This project used these criteria to create a plan for guiding an age-diverse staff through the transition of the retirement of the founder of an organization.
