An Exploration Of The Velten Mood Induction Procedure On Psychological Symptomology, Carla Nanette Perlotto Jan 2007

An Exploration Of The Velten Mood Induction Procedure On Psychological Symptomology, Carla Nanette Perlotto

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the Velten (1968) Mood Induction Procedure (VMIP) on psychological symptomology. Velten created a series of 60 statements designed to produce a particular mood: elated, depressed, or neutral. The VMIP came out of the cognitive movement, has undergone permutations over time, and other MIPs have been developed. Criticisms of the MIPs are discussed. The VMIP is feasible as a therapeutic tool due to flexibility and ease of use; In this study, the VMIP was utilized to induce an elated, depressed, or neutral mood. Hypotheses included: for elated condition (EC), report …

The Influence Of The Discussion Leader Procedure On The Quality Of Arguments In Online Discussions, Alexandru Spatariu Jan 2006

The Influence Of The Discussion Leader Procedure On The Quality Of Arguments In Online Discussions, Alexandru Spatariu

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Online discussions can lead to an enriched understanding of course content. This study explored the influence of a discussion leader procedure with specific instructions on the quality of online argumentation and interactivity. Sound analysis of both sides of an issue and movement towards a final resolution has not been evaluated within online discussions current research. Subjects were 44 undergraduate students who participated in online discussions on a technology issue over two weeks. Participants also completed a need for cognition scale developed by Cacioppo, Petty, and Kao (1984). Results indicated that students participating in groups receiving specific argumentation instructions from the …

Sequential Procedure For Test Of Uniformity In Multinomial Models, Hai Zhen Jan 2005

Sequential Procedure For Test Of Uniformity In Multinomial Models, Hai Zhen

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

In this thesis we deal with a sequential procedure for testing uniformity in a given multinomial distribution using inverse sampling. From a decision theoretic point of view, we devise an efficient stopping rule that satisfies a pre-determined P*-condition. Dirichlet distribution Type II will be primarily used for developing the inverse-type sequential procedure based on the decision theoretic point of view. We assume a non-zero cell probability (parameter) for given multinomial models. In particular, we will be focusing on the equal cell probability configuration (EPC) among all feasible cell configurations. One of the main goals is to find optimal sample sizes …

Development Of An Inexpensive Test System And Evaluation Of The Test Procedures For Conducting Vibration Tests On Antivibration Gloves Per Iso Standard 10819, Jason K Stein Jan 1998

Development Of An Inexpensive Test System And Evaluation Of The Test Procedures For Conducting Vibration Tests On Antivibration Gloves Per Iso Standard 10819, Jason K Stein

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

An inexpensive test system was developed for conducting vibration tests on vibration attenuating gloves using ISO Standard 10819: Mechanical Vibration and Shock--Hand-Arm Vibration--Method for the Measurement and Evaluation of the Vibration Transmissibility of Gloves at the Palm of the Hand. A small electromechanical shaker initially incapable of handling a 42-58 N static push applied to its handle during glove testing was modified using a simple air bladder so it could handle the required forces. Test procedures were developed to obtain the proper input acceleration levels delivered to the shaker's handle without using a feedback network. Using these procedures, a cross …

An Analysis Of Two Strategies For Implementing A Parent Self-Administered Advice Procedure For Training And Maintaining Responsibilities Among Family Members, Michael Paul Mcmanmon Jan 1977

An Analysis Of Two Strategies For Implementing A Parent Self-Administered Advice Procedure For Training And Maintaining Responsibilities Among Family Members, Michael Paul Mcmanmon

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

An attempt was made to investigate two strategies for implementing a self-administered parental advice procedure for training and maintaining responsibilities among family members. The population included 14 families from Las Vegas, Nevada who were seeking to solve common child-rearing problems. Families were divided into two groups: Contact approach and No-Contact approach. Contact approach parents received one hour of professional assistance per week. The No-Contact approach parents self-administered the Children's Activity Planner in their homes. No significant pretest differences existed between groups. Research indicates that few self-administered programs exist for in-home resolution of common child-rearing problems. The Children's Activity Planner was …
