A Comparison Of Maximal Oxygen Uptake Achieved From A Horizontal And Inclined Treadmill Test, Cherri Nowotny Epstein Jan 1993

A Comparison Of Maximal Oxygen Uptake Achieved From A Horizontal And Inclined Treadmill Test, Cherri Nowotny Epstein

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to compare two protocols and the resulting VO2 max obtained. In one protocol grade only was used to impose greater workloads; in the other protocol speed only was used to impose greater workloads. In addition, maximum heart rate, perceived general fatigue, leg fatigue and cardiorespiratory fatigue between the two protocols was compared. Thirty apparently healthy subjects, 15 men and 15 women, between 18 and 35 years of age participated; The statistical treatment showed that there was no significant difference in VO2 max between inclined and horizontal running. There was no significant difference in max …

A Comparison Of The Comprehension Of Procedural Information Using Computer And Hard-Copy Media, Aiessa Moyna Lawrence Jan 1993

A Comparison Of The Comprehension Of Procedural Information Using Computer And Hard-Copy Media, Aiessa Moyna Lawrence

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Users of technical procedures must be able to understand the documents to use them to perform their work. As more companies contemplate putting their procedures on-line, it is important to know whether computer systems will be as effective as traditional hard-copy presentation in communicating procedures to the employees who must use them; To determine whether there is a relationship between computer usage and the comprehension of technical procedures, an experiment was conducted among employees of a scientific and technical company in Las Vegas, Nevada. A control group read and demonstrated its comprehension of hard-copy procedures only, while an experimental group …

Comparison And Correlation Of Lithostratigraphic And Hydrostratigraphic Units Of Southwest Area 20, Pahute Mesa, Nevada Test Site, Deborah Ann Dale Jan 1993

Comparison And Correlation Of Lithostratigraphic And Hydrostratigraphic Units Of Southwest Area 20, Pahute Mesa, Nevada Test Site, Deborah Ann Dale

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Traditionally, the boundaries of hydrogeologic units are restricted to the lithologic boundaries of the rock in which the hydrogeologic unit is recognized. This type of identification places emphasis on the composition and lithic characteristic of the unit rather than the material properties of the rock that affect potential ground-water flow. Hydrostratigraphic units represent an improved method of defining potential ground-water flow by identifying and grouping hydrologic units based upon the porosity and permeability of the rocks--not on geologic contacts, thus removing the limitations of presently defined lithostratigraphic boundaries; Six major and four minor hydrostratigraphic units were identified in and correlated …

Identification And Comparison Of Factors Affecting Breast Self-Examination Between Professional Nurses And Non-Nursing Professional Women, Sandra Christina Klimek Jan 1993

Identification And Comparison Of Factors Affecting Breast Self-Examination Between Professional Nurses And Non-Nursing Professional Women, Sandra Christina Klimek

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to compare breast self-examination (BSE) behavior of professional nurses with non-nursing women alumni, and to describe the factors which influence regular adherence to BSE. The age range of the N = 549 women was 22 to 72 years. The factors of knowledge, self-esteem, attitudes, beliefs and demographics were examined. The conceptual framework was Betty Neuman's Health Care System Model. A sample of 439 professional nurses was compared to a sample of 110 women alumni. The survey questionnaire was made up of Champion's Health Belief and Knowledge tools, and the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. The analysis …
