Demographic Variables And Academic Discipline As Determinants Of Undergraduates’ Use Of Electronic Library Resources In Federal Universities In South-West, Nigeria, Adefunke Sarah Ebijuwa, Iyabo Mabawonku Professor

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Undergraduates use electronic library resources for academic activities because it offers access to relevant and current information from different subject areas. Literature review indicated that undergraduates’ use of electronic library resources is low in Nigeria owing to a number of factors that are largely attributed to user’s attitude, computer literacy and information retrieval skills, but, little attention was given to factors such as demographic variables and academic discipline. This study, therefore, examined demographic variables (age, gender) and academic discipline as determinants of undergraduates’ use of electronic library resources in in federal universities in South-west, Nigeria. The Art Of Selecting Phd Students: Combination Of Bibliometric And Ahp Approach, Preeti Mulay Dr., Rahul Raghvendra Joshi Prof., Sophia Gaikwad Dr.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

For the PhD guide or the advisor selecting the accurate PhD scholar is the most elephantine task. It actually requires an art for the perfect selection; as the length, breadth, depth and volume of PhD work is spread across the years and this relationship between the scholar and the guide should start and flourish positively for the immense experience throughout the PhD process. Hence it was essential to understand bibliometric details including how many researchers have already published their contributions in the form of papers and patents, in the Scopus database. In addition to the bibliometric details, in this study, …

Comparison Of Extraction Methods For Recovering Ancient Microbial Dna From Paleofeces, Richard Hagan, Courtney A. Hofman, Alexander Hübner, Karl Reinhard, Stephanie Schnorr, Cecil M. Lewis, Jr., Krithivasan Sankaranarayanan, Christina G. Warinner

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Objectives: Paleofeces are valuable to archeologists and evolutionary biologists for their potential to yield health, dietary, and host information. As a rich source of preserved biomolecules from host-associated microorganisms, they can also provide insights into the recent evolution and changing ecology of the gut microbiome. How- ever, there is currently no standard method for DNA extraction from paleofeces, which combine the dual challenges of complex biological composition and degraded DNA. Due to the scarcity and relatively poor preservation of paleofeces when compared with other archeological remains, it is important to use efficient methods that maximize ancient DNA (aDNA) recovery while …

University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers

The Neotropical variegated squirrel, Sciurus variegatoides, is represented in Nicaragua by five known subspecies—adolphei, belti, boothiae, dorsalis, and underwoodi. Analyses of morphometrics, color, and color patterns of 394 specimens from throughout the country and all available literature support the retention of these subspecies, but also reveal the presence of a sixth population of these squirrels, which is worthy of description and recognition as a new subspecies. This new subspecies is confined to Isla de Ometepe in Lago de Nicaragua. Variegated squirrels on Ometepe are on average the smallest variegated squirrels in the country …

The Skiles Mummy (SMM), a naturally mummified adult male from the late archaic period of Lower Pecos Canyonlands of South Texas, represents a unique case of care. SMM is an exceptional mummy within this region due to both the retention of a full head of hair, and having a diagnosed case of megacolon, a complication commonly associated with Chagas disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. Stable isotopic analysis of his hair is consistent with a diet incorporating of C4/CAM plants with some C3 plants, freshwater resources, and higher trophic level animals. However, the segments of hair most …

Changes In Mammalian Abundance Through The Eocene-Oligocene Climate Transition In The White River Group Of Nebraska, Usa, Robert Gillham

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Marine records show major cooling during the Eocene-Oligocene Climate Transition (EOCT). Most proxy studies in the White River Group suggest drying across the EOCT, and some suggest cooling. The lower resolution continental record has hindered a direct correlation of the marine climate record to Nebraska. I explore various correlation schemes and what they imply for faunal changes. This study compiles and analyzes data from 4,875 specimens in the University of Nebraska State Museum (UNSM) collection to test the hypothesis that climate change across the Eocene-Oligocene (E-O) boundary caused significant abundance changes in mammals. A series of binning schemes was created. …

Department of Food Science and Technology: Faculty Publications

Microbial species utilize secreted-signaling molecules to coordinate their behavior. Our previous investigations demonstrated a key role for the Candida albicans-secreted quorum-sensing molecule farnesol in modulating Staphylococcus aureus response to antimicrobials in mixed biofilms. In this study, we aimed to provide mechanistic insights into the impact of farnesol on S. aureus within the context of inter-species interactions. To mimic biofilm dynamics, farnesol-sensitized S. aureus cells were generated via sequential farnesol exposure. The sensitized phenotype exhibited dramatic loss of the typical pigment, which we identified as staphyloxanthin, an important virulence factor synthesized by the Crt operon in S. aureus. Additionally, farnesol exposure …

Type Theory, Paris Mood

Masters in Architecture Program: Theses

The concept of type and typology are at the heart of Architecture. Type is the simple act of drawing similarity and difference between a group of artifacts. Typology, on the other hand, is a bit more complicated. When one engages with typology, they are taking the information they gather from observing the artifacts and transposing it into a new context. Most designers and architects refer to this act as type/typology. The distinction between the two terms is necessary for my work. My work looks at the relationship between these two events. As a collective they are Type Theory.
