This paper summarizes key learning insights from the 2023 U.S. Summit on Transformative Education organized by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network USA. Over 400 members from higher education institutions, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, students, and teachers, joined the online event held February 23-25. The Summit created a bridge between social justice issues with an historical lens and sustainable development. Learning insights include those shared by session speakers, dialogue among participants during thematic conversations and regional networking forums, comments made by attendees on session Jamboards and the Zoom Chat function, and post-Summit feedback. My experience with the Rivers Institute and water has helped me to bring more of myself to the table in roles of leadership. The most recent module of the Environmental Justice Academy (EJA) serves as an excellent example of this. Katie, another Stew, and I have assisted the steering team by planning and facilitating high-energy icebreakers to open the second day of the monthly modules.

Librarians and archivists preserve information on the Internet through web archiving, but undergraduate students may not have considered that information on the Internet is not always permanent. The asynchronous program, Citizen Web Archiving: Preserving Websites for the Common Good, taught students what web archiving is, why it’s important, the ethics of collecting information on the Internet, and how they could contribute to the historical record by archiving websites they deemed important via the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. The results suggest further opportunities for involving undergraduate students with web archiving initiatives at institutions, and using web archiving as a pedagogical tool.

Environmental and climate justice will be at the heart of a series of University of Dayton events to honor the legacy of Saint Oscar Romero. The series will culminate with the University bestowing its human rights award named in his honor to Aura Lolita Chávez Ixcaquic, leader of the Council of Ki’che’ Peoples which helps preserve indigenous lands against corporate exploitation in Guatemala.
