Effect Of Endodontic Sealers On Dentin Strength, Philip Chang
Effect Of Endodontic Sealers On Dentin Strength, Philip Chang
Master's Theses
Introduction: The ideal endodontic sealer should be biocompatible, dimensionally stable, and have proper bond strength to dentin. The aim of this study was to apply a hoop stress to sectioned teeth discs which have been obturated with AH Plus sealer with no gutta percha, EndoSequence Bioceramic Sealer (BC Sealer) with no gutta percha, and Tetranite® with no gutta percha until fracture occurred and then compared the failure stresses.
Methods: Teeth were divided into three groups based on the sealer type used. The teeth were sectioned into 2 mm thick discs and load was applied using a piston until …

An Insight To Psychological Health, Health Behaviors, And Bodyweight Among Correctional Employees, Christina Mignano
An Insight To Psychological Health, Health Behaviors, And Bodyweight Among Correctional Employees, Christina Mignano
Master's Theses
Background: Correctional employees present a poor physical and mental health profile including high rates of overweight/obesity, poor health behaviors (diet, exercise, and sleep quality), high stress levels, and poor psychological health (e.g. high rates of depression, suicide, and divorce). Worse, correctional employees deny their stress and negative emotions as their occupational culture discourages expressing negative characteristics that would make one appear weak and deters seeking psychiatric help. Correctional employees are in need of effective health promotion efforts that address determinants of employee health with an all-inclusive view (mental/emotional/behavioral). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess if stress and/or …
Adapting The Job Demand/Control Model To A Team Level, Clark Calabrese
Adapting The Job Demand/Control Model To A Team Level, Clark Calabrese
Master's Theses
A better understanding of sources of stress within a teamwork context might be gained by applying the Job Demands/Control Model of stress (Karasek and Theorell, 1990) to teams as the unit of analysis rather than only to individuals as it is conventionally done. Team performance is frequently treated as a shared team-level outcome; it seems reasonable to assume that shared team characteristics are likely to have effects on stress as well. In particular, teams are unique in their requirement for coordination between team members. Therefore, the present study proposes an adapted Team Job Demands/Control Model of team-level stress phenomena in …
Stress, Anxiety, And Somatic Symptoms: A Comparison Of Biomarkers In A Clinical Sample, David J. Finitsis
Stress, Anxiety, And Somatic Symptoms: A Comparison Of Biomarkers In A Clinical Sample, David J. Finitsis
Master's Theses
Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent class of mental disorders, often characterized by a chronic course and comorbid psychopathology. The anxiety-stress literature utilizing cortisol as a biomarker of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis has been inconsistent. The establishment of salivary alpha-amylase (sAA) as a biomarker of sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activation allows researchers an opportunity to examine the stress response more fully. This study sought to explore relationships between trait anxiety and salivary stress biomarkers in an outpatient sample attending a specialized anxiety treatment center. Multiple regression and moderator analyses were conducted to examine associations between psychosocial and physiological …
Negative Event Appraisals, Cognitive Processing, And Adjustment, Kristen E. Riley
Negative Event Appraisals, Cognitive Processing, And Adjustment, Kristen E. Riley
Master's Theses
Appraisals of stressful events are linked to their adjustment to those stressful events. Appraisals can include perceptions of an event as threatening, uncontrollable, controllable, central, or challenging (Peacock & Wong, 1990). Many studies have examined effects of these appraisals on adjustment and cognitive processing (Aldwin, 2007; Lazarus, 1993; Tan, Jensen, Thornby, & Anderson, 2005), and a few have suggested that cognitive processing mediates relationships between appraisals and adjustment (Peacock & Wong, 1996). We tested cognitive processing in mediation models between appraisals and adjustment, and compared to active coping, in the context of ongoing stressors. Active coping appears to be particularly …
