Obtaining behavioral health evaluation and care for the pediatric population is particularly difficult. In recent years, emergency departments (EDs) have become a customary location for patients to seek behavioral health treatment. This spike has created unforeseen problems and caring for this vulnerable population presents ED nurses with many challenges. The purpose of the study was to understand the lived experience of nurses caring for pediatric behavioral health patients in the ED. A Naturalistic Observational Study On Parenting Styles, Healthy Eating Indicators And Bmi In Latino And White-European Children, Gloriana Rodriguez-Arauz

This dissertation examined the relationships between general and food parenting practices, healthy eating indicators and child BMI in diverse sample of 30 families with a child from 3 to 5 years old (15 Latino families, 15 White-European families). This study used an innovative audio recording device to track caregiver-child interactions in natural environments, as caregivers and children went about their lives. Main findings of this study include that Latino caregivers tended to be less warm and encourage less their children to eat, both at the behavioral level and the caregiver-report level, compared to White-European caregivers. The need for effective interventions to improve the social communication skills of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that are feasible to implement in the general education classroom has been well documented. Video self-modeling (VSM) interventions have produced rapid, durable positive behavioral changes that have been generalized beyond the intervention setting for individuals with a wide variety of conditions including ASD. In this study VSM was used as an intervention for increasing the use of spontaneous verbal communication during cooperative math activities with peers by three Hispanic boys ages 5 and 6 who had high functioning (HF) ASD.
