This updated toolkit is a collaborative effort of ECMC Foundations research fellows from the University of Central Florida as well as U.S. academic experts with experience in postsecondary and secondary CTE teacher recruitment, training, and retention. The purpose is to create a digital toolkit of practical and proven strategies for the hiring and retention of quality postsecondary CTE teachers. This toolkit contains similar information from seven U.S. states and two U.S. territories regarding their CTE teacher policies and practices including lessons learned and best practices. This presentation was for Teaching & Learning Day, hosted by the Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning at the University of Central Florida. The session shared how the UCF Libraries and Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) can help faculty connect to free (open or library-sourced) resources and tools to find, adapt, or author course materials and reduce student out-of-pocket cost to zero ($0). Session activities included constructing queries to find quality, relevant free/open materials and using AI technology to automate the course assessment creation process.

The recent reopening of the third floor of the John C. Hitt Library has been long anticipated by students. In addition to containing new seating, study rooms, and Genesis (a colorful stained glass window you can relax in front of - I highly recommend it), the third floor also contains the Academic Engagement Suite. The Academic Engagement Suite houses librarians who are there to teach students how to use resources available through the library and provide one-on-one consultations for research assistance.

Season three of Knights Do That, UCF’s official podcast, returns with its sixth guest, Bethany Backes, an assistant professor in the Violence Against Women faculty cluster and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Criminal Justice and School of Social Work. Backes worked for more than 10 years as a social science analyst for the U.S. Department of Justice and joined UCF in 2019.

Here she shares her research with the cluster, what it means to be a champion both against violence and for social justice, and how she has succeeded in academia.
