Roosting Ecology Of Rafinesque's Big-Eared Bat, Corynorhinus Rafinesquii, In Southeastern Mississippi, Austin Webb Trousdale Iii
Dissertations
Rafinesque's big-eared bat, Corynorhinus rafinesquii, is considered rare and/or declining throughout its range. Concrete bridges are potentially important roosts for C. rafinesquii, especially in the Gulf Coastal Plain where the species' natural roosts (caves and large hollow trees) are inherently scarce. Successful efforts to monitor and conserve this species must account for its movements among multiple roosts and determine the duration of its roost use (including bridges) at different temporal scales. Therefore, I investigated roosting ecology of C. rafinesquii from 2000-2005 within a mixed hardwood-pine (Pinus spp.) system in southeastern Mississippi. I conducted surveys of concrete bridges to determine phenological …

Analysis Of Secchi Depths And Light Attenuation Coefficients In The Louisiana-Texas Shelf, Northern Gulf Of Mexico, A. Lugo-Fernández, M. Gravois, T. Montgomery
Gulf of Mexico Science
We analyzed Secchi depths (Zs), scalar downwelling irradiance, and transmissometer data collected during 10 cruises that spanned two and one-half years (May 1992-Nov. 1994) over the Louisiana-Texas shelf. The Zs increases from the inner shelf (depths ≤50 m) to the outer shelf and from nonsummer (Zs =10m) to summer (Zs = 14m). These changes in Zs are induced by the shelf's circulation and freshwater input, both of which vary seasonally, i.e., nonsummer to summer. Optical parameters (e.g., Zs), like the circulation, divide the shelf into an inner and outer shelf along the 50-m isobath. The …
A Checklist Of Benthic Marine Algae Of The Coast Of Texas, Michael J. Wynne
A Checklist Of Benthic Marine Algae Of The Coast Of Texas, Michael J. Wynne
Gulf of Mexico Science
A synthesis of the benthic marine algal flora for the Texas coastline is compiled. A total of 208 taxa of benthic macroalgae is presented, including 114 taxa of Rhodophyceae (red algae), 28 taxa of Phaeophyceae (brown algae), and 66 taxa of Ulvophyceae (green algae). These algal taxa are placed in an arrangement according to the most currently accepted schemes of classification, reflecting the results of comparative phylogenetic treatments. Explanatory "Notes" with information on taxonomic and nomenclatural changes are included.
