The social deficits observed in individiuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can often be improved with social skills training. The current study evaluated the effects of the Superheroes Social Skills training program which uses animated superheroes, video modeling, and comic books to teach social skills training. Three participants with ASD were trained in Conversation, Responding to Questions, and Body Basics over ten sessions, with sessions occurring twice a week in a non-school setting at the Arc of Southeast Mississippi. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a prominent chronic illness in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2016) estimated that one child out of every 365 African-American births will have SCD, affecting approximately 100,000 Americans. Supporting and promoting the integrity of the family and its’ members when a child has SCD is important for each family member’s well-being. Considerations to be contemplated in daily health delivery systems are complex and require varied approaches to deliver best-care processes that produce optimal patient outcomes. Specialty practice sites not only require the capability but also necessitate proficiency and dedication in meeting and exceeding essential healthcare competencies. A psychiatric treatment center specialty practice was the setting for this DNP project. The focus of this project included: (1) care resourcefulness, (2) safety initiatives, (3) increased privacy and confidentiality compliance, and (4) cost-efficiency measures.
