Validation Of A Focused Basic Transthoracic Echocardiography Training Programme For Irish Critical Care Doctors, Roisin O'Mahony Dec 2017

Validation Of A Focused Basic Transthoracic Echocardiography Training Programme For Irish Critical Care Doctors, Roisin O'Mahony

Masters

Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) is a technique for scanning the human heart using ultrasound. It enables us to acquire vital information about the size, structure and function of the heart. This test is a crucial cardiac diagnostic test. Historically TTE was used only in cardiology departments, undertaken by trained personnel called cardiac physiologists or cardiology doctors. More recently, TTE has been recognized to be very useful in the management of critically ill patients in the intensive care and high dependency units of our hospitals. Currently bedside TTE on these patients is performed by cardiac physiologists who are generally only available during …

A Study Of Intelligent Transport Systems (Its) In Dublin Port In Conjunction With The Intelligent Transport For Dynamic Environment (Intrade) Project, Kay Mcginley Sep 2017

A Study Of Intelligent Transport Systems (Its) In Dublin Port In Conjunction With The Intelligent Transport For Dynamic Environment (Intrade) Project, Kay Mcginley

Masters

In the last four decades the container as an essential part of a unit load-concept has achieved authentic importance in international sea freight transportation. With ever increasing containerization the number of port container terminals and competition among them has become quite remarkable. Port container operations are nowadays unthinkable without effective and efficient use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) (Steenken & Stahlbock, 2004). The main problem in handling increasing levels of cargo is managing the internal traffic and optimizing space inside smaller and medium sized ports. A gap exists between automated cargo handling equipment that is suitable for use in the …

Wavelength Drift In Cwdm Systems: Impact And Measurement, Thomas Freir Jan 2017

Wavelength Drift In Cwdm Systems: Impact And Measurement, Thomas Freir

Masters

The research begins with an investigation of wavelength drift in Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) systems, especially in the context of temperature dependent wavelength drift. A simple model was proposed using a typical ‘application’ from ITU-T G.695. OptiSystem was chosen as the simulation platform due to its ease of use, the variety and flexibility of its inbuilt components and similar models simulated on the platform in the past. The research then investigates the measurement of wavelength drift focusing on how to determine an acceptable wavelength accuracy for a CWDM wavelength monitor. The chosen approach arose from observations of the results …

The Aging Human Heart. Doppler Echocardiographic Assessment Of The Resting Adult Heart Across The Age Bands., Anthony Ryan Jan 2017

The Aging Human Heart. Doppler Echocardiographic Assessment Of The Resting Adult Heart Across The Age Bands., Anthony Ryan

Masters

Objectives: To determine the influence of aging on measured left ventricular (LV) diastolic parameters using healthy subjects aged 40-79 years. To propose age-related reference values for LV filling pressure, LV isovolumic relaxation time (LV IVRT) and myocardial stiffness index for each decade using pulsed waved tissue Doppler.

Background: Pulsed wave tissue Doppler parameters have been used for over a decade in the clinical setting as an aid to the evaluation of diastolic function and filling pressures, however there is limited information on normal reference ranges especially in middle age and the older person.

Methods: Subjects with no …

Improvising A Microtonal System: The Creative Implications Of A Hybrid Scale Calculated From The Reversed Fretboard Structure Of A Standard 24-Fret Guitar, And The Resulting Xenharmonic Microtonal System Vol. I, Michael Nielsen Jan 2017

Improvising A Microtonal System: The Creative Implications Of A Hybrid Scale Calculated From The Reversed Fretboard Structure Of A Standard 24-Fret Guitar, And The Resulting Xenharmonic Microtonal System Vol. I, Michael Nielsen

Masters

This practice-based research (driven by an initial improvisatory pluck on the opposite side of a fretted note, producing a microtone) focuses on the development of a new hybrid microtonal system derived from inverting the measurements of a 24-fret guitar fingerboard and superimposing them onto a normal fretboard, produced a 40-fret guitar with numerous additional microtonal intervals. This resulted in a composite scale structure consisting of a standard twelve-tone equal temperament (12-TET) system in addition to microtonal intervals of varied sizes. The structure of this fretboard produced a distinctive, performatively accessible, cluster of microtones at the beginning of the fretboard, contributing …

A Corporate Ethical Compass Tool To Measure Public Relations Decision Making, Lian Qing Luo Jan 2017

A Corporate Ethical Compass Tool To Measure Public Relations Decision Making, Lian Qing Luo

Masters

Corporate Public Relations (PR) Ethics is always a top research topic in theory and practice as PR practitioners often have numerous ethical choices to make when addressing controversial issues. However, how to quantify or measure the ethical alternatives of PR decision making and help public relations practitioners make more ethically correct decisions is an open problem. To address this problem, this thesis proposes the PR "Ethical Compass" as a measuring tool or technique to help corporations justify and evaluate the consequences of their ethical public relations decision making. To investigate the advantages and disadvantages of the Ethical Compass technique, qualitative …
