A Critical Review Of The Requirements Of Quantity Surveyors For Collaborative Bim Engagement And Success, Bim Tudublin, Mary Flynn

Capstone Reports

This paper sets out to critically review the requirements of Quantity Surveyors (QSs) for collaborative BIM engagement and success. The paper has been set in the context of the Irish QS and his reluctance to actively and collaboratively engage in the 5D QS BIM process (5D –the fifth Dimension designated to QSs). A literature review was undertaken to establish the reasons for this lack of QS engagement. The data from these reviews was collected and analyzed and distilled into the main chal-lenges that required resolution to engage QS participation in the 5 D BIM process. A mixed research methodology based …

In their recent report [1] into Building Information Management or BIM, construction law experts May Winfield and Sarah Rock gives reason to state that the UK architectural, engineering and construction industry or AEC, is hindered by the absence of a clear definition of Level 2 BIM. ISO 19650-2:2018:2018 is based upon the PAS 1192-2:2013 standard[2]. The intent of ISO 19650-2:2018 is to provide a roadmap to facilitate the standardisation of BIM process in a uniformed fashion. A key pillar of ISO 19650-2:2018 is the “information cycle” and central to this is a federated set of design intent models, commonly referred …

Can The Application Of The Visual Programme Tool Dynamo Assist In Streamlining Current Cobie Requirements For Design Professionals, Bim Tudublin, Richard Kenna May 2018

Can The Application Of The Visual Programme Tool Dynamo Assist In Streamlining Current Cobie Requirements For Design Professionals, Bim Tudublin, Richard Kenna

Capstone Reports

information exchange (COBie) is still a misunderstood and miscommunicated topic. Despite the free distribution of supporting information, many errors remain in its practical application. This study explores strengthening COBie design practices, reducing computational expense by data automation and streamlining the workflow process without the need for designer’s total immersion into COBie theory. Synergies between Autodesk Revit and Dynamo BIM were the chosen software utilised to achieve such a goal. A literature review is first employed to provide a current overview from academic and industry sources, with the principles of design science the chosen methodology in the development, implementation and evaluation …

A Critical Examination On The Ability Of Bim-Based Software To Provide A More Accurate Building Energy Rating (Ber) For New Dwellings In Ireland When Compared Against The Deap Software, Bim Tudublin, Brian Meegan May 2018

A Critical Examination On The Ability Of Bim-Based Software To Provide A More Accurate Building Energy Rating (Ber) For New Dwellings In Ireland When Compared Against The Deap Software, Bim Tudublin, Brian Meegan

Capstone Reports

In this paper, a simulation-based approach was taken to perform sensitivity anal-ysis on building energy consumption datasets. The aim of the analysis was to assess the capa-bility of BIM based software for BER certification of new housing units in Ireland. The simu-lations involved the creation of three distinct model houses, repeated in three different software packages. The two BIM software packages chosen for assessment were Autodesk Revit for model construction and energy analysis through the Autodesk Insight plugin, and IES VE for model construction and energy simulation. The Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure (DEAP) software, approved by the Sustainable Energy Authority …

Assessing The Synthesis Of Bim Technology And Irish Construction Sector Health And Safety: Using 3d Immersive Environments To Improve Awareness Of Risks And Hazards On Building Sites, Bim Tudublin, Ray Coote May 2018

Assessing The Synthesis Of Bim Technology And Irish Construction Sector Health And Safety: Using 3d Immersive Environments To Improve Awareness Of Risks And Hazards On Building Sites, Bim Tudublin, Ray Coote

Capstone Reports

Ireland is currently on an upward slope in a boom period in the construction industry and it is inevitable that workforce numbers will increase. A n ew approach at engaging field workers in health & safety awareness is critical to maintaining the downward trajectory in fatality and accidents, as the numbers emplo yed in the construction industry increase. As modelling software use in design development and delivery becomes more prevalent , it enhances the designer’s ability to anticipate, spot and foresee hazards and risks in the design . The hypothesis of this paper is that the use of Building Information …
