Bryn Oh : Un’Artista Del Metaverso, Susanna Nocchi

Books/Book Chapters

Telling Tales Of Conquest And Independence: Feminising (French) Algeria, Aoife Connolly Jan 2017

Telling Tales Of Conquest And Independence: Feminising (French) Algeria, Aoife Connolly

Books/Book Chapters

This chapter forms part of an inter-disciplinary collection on gender studies, discourses and identities. It examines feminised representations of Algeria and makes an important contribution to scholarship by tracing depictions of the territory as an indigenous female by both pro- and anti-colonial sides. It is also particularly innovative in its revelation of heretofore unexplored post-independence representations of Algeria as a white female by respected pied-noir (settler) authors – Alain Vircondelet, Jules Roy and Albert Camus.

A Comparison On The Classification Of Short-Text Documents Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation And Formal Concept Analysis, Noel Rogers, Luca Longo Jan 2017

A Comparison On The Classification Of Short-Text Documents Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation And Formal Concept Analysis, Noel Rogers, Luca Longo

Books/Book Chapters

With the increasing amounts of textual data being collected online, automated text classification techniques are becoming increasingly important. However, a lot of this data is in the form of short-text with just a handful of terms per document (e.g. Text messages, tweets or Facebook posts). This data is generally too sparse and noisy to obtain satisfactory classification. Two techniques which aim to alleviate this problem are Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). Both techniques have been shown to improve the performance of short-text classification by reducing the sparsity of the input data. The relative performance of classifiers …

Development Of Magnetorheological Elastomers (Mres) For Strength And Fatigue Resistance, J. Mcintyre, Stephen Jerrams Jan 2017

Development Of Magnetorheological Elastomers (Mres) For Strength And Fatigue Resistance, J. Mcintyre, Stephen Jerrams

Books/Book Chapters

Natural rubber (NR)-based magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) exhibiting a reasonable switching effect were fabricated and tested. They were strong enough for use in automotive applications but still needed protection against ageing. Ethylene–propylene–diene rubber (EPDM) is a cost-effective material that is frequently used in the automotive industry because of its advantageous range of properties. With these applications in mind, it was a logical progression to the development of EPDM-based MREs. Unlike strain-crystallising NR, EPDM requires reinforcement to render its tensile and fatigue strength suitable for use in most applications. While small amounts of carbon black were sufficient for the NR-based MREs, a …

Gender Counts: An Analysis Of Gender In Irish Theatre 2006-15, Brenda Donohue, Ciara O'Dowd, Tanya Dean, Ciara Murphy, Kathleen Cawley, Kate Harris Jan 2017

Gender Counts: An Analysis Of Gender In Irish Theatre 2006-15, Brenda Donohue, Ciara O'Dowd, Tanya Dean, Ciara Murphy, Kathleen Cawley, Kate Harris

Books/Book Chapters

In 2016, thanks to support from The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, #WakingTheFeminists commissioned groundbreaking research into the gender balance in Irish theatre. Here are the results.

The research was conducted by a team of six researchers led by Dr. Brenda Donohue, in collaboration with Irish Theatre Institute and the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance at NUI Galway. Their work looks at key creative roles in ten of the top Arts Council-funded theatre organisations in the country over a ten year period from 2006-15

Challenges In Developing Adaptive Educational Hypermedia Systems, Eileen O'Donnell, Liam O'Donnell Jan 2017

Challenges In Developing Adaptive Educational Hypermedia Systems, Eileen O'Donnell, Liam O'Donnell

Books/Book Chapters

Traditional educational hypermedia systems afford learners the “one size fits all” approach to learning (Brusilovsky, 2003, 2004; Chatti, Jarke, & Specht, 2010; Hsieh, Lee, & Su, 2013). In the “one size fits all” approach to learning each student in every cohort of students is given access to the same learning objects in the same way as every other student who is studying the same course. The learning objects or learning content stays static regardless of the learning requirements of different students.
