Genetic Variability Of Bilaterally Symmetrical Fruits Of Norway Maple In Function Of Species Biodiversity Conservation, Isidora Simovic, Mirjana Ocokoljic, Dragica Obratov-Petkovic, Dragica Vilotic

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Parkway trees in urban environments have a pivotal ecological role, primarily because they modify microclimatological parameters. Norway maple is a suitable species for these purposes since it is very adaptable to city conditions. This characteristic of Norway maple allows urban trees to be used as a basis for biodiversity conservation. Bilaterally symmetrical fruits of Norway maple are particularly convenient for the exploration of developmental stability and the role of genetic and environment in variability of morphological characteristics of Norway maple. Variability change through different conditions could be used for creation of a scale that could serve to predict morphology of …

Polymorphisms Of Ovine Prion Protein (Prp) Gene In Pramenka Sheepbreed Population In Bosnia And Herzegovina, Ervin Zecevic, Admir Dokso, Amra Kazic, Muhamed Brka Jan 2015

Polymorphisms Of Ovine Prion Protein (Prp) Gene In Pramenka Sheepbreed Population In Bosnia And Herzegovina, Ervin Zecevic, Admir Dokso, Amra Kazic, Muhamed Brka

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are a group of diseases that affect the nervous system and lead to death. The putative infectious agent is the host-encoded prion protein (PrP) and it appears that the development of scrapie in sheep is closely related to polymorphisms in the host PrP gene. The aim of this study was to investigate three well-known polymorphisms in exon 3 of the PrP gene (at codons 136, 154, and 171) that have a clear and significant effect on scrapie in sheep. Four other polymorphisms (at codons 145, 185, 231, and 237) that are yet undefined were also investigated. …

Determination Of The Alui Polymorphism Effect Of Bovine Growth Hormone Gene On Carcass Traits In Zavot Cattle With Analysis Of Covariance, Aytaç Akçay, Bi̇lal Akyüz, Davut Bayram Jan 2015

Determination Of The Alui Polymorphism Effect Of Bovine Growth Hormone Gene On Carcass Traits In Zavot Cattle With Analysis Of Covariance, Aytaç Akçay, Bi̇lal Akyüz, Davut Bayram

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to determine the genotypes of bovine growth hormone and to investigate their association with daily weight gain in the Zavot cattle breed. The bovine growth hormone (GH) genotypes of 45 male Zavot cattle were identified by PCR-RFLP. The effect of the bovine growth hormone gene on daily weight gain was estimated from a dataset obtained from cattle up to the age of 9 months. The mean differences of carcass weight or carcass yield among the genotype groups were assessed by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Two alleles for bovine growth hormone locus, L and V, …

Genetic Variability And Relationship Studies In New Indian Papaya (Carica Papaya L.) Germplasm Using Morphological And Molecular Markers, Parmeshwar Lal Saran, Ravish Choudhary, Ishwar Singh Solanki, Pravin Patil, Sanjay Kumar Jan 2015

Genetic Variability And Relationship Studies In New Indian Papaya (Carica Papaya L.) Germplasm Using Morphological And Molecular Markers, Parmeshwar Lal Saran, Ravish Choudhary, Ishwar Singh Solanki, Pravin Patil, Sanjay Kumar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Papaya germplasm showed wide morphological diversity in terms of fruit yield, weight, length, cavity, fruiting zone, flesh thickness, flesh color, and total soluble solids content. RAPD and ISSR markers also showed polymorphisms at rates of of 84.32% and 84.67%, respectively. Jaccard's genetic similarity values of RAPD and ISSR were found in the range of 0.30-0.99 (average: 0.65) and 0.26-0.95 (average: 0.61), respectively, suggesting a moderate level of genetic diversity within the papaya group. Seven of the 15 RAPD primers and 5 of the 11 ISSR primers were also able to generate cultivar-specific amplicons, which were used for identification of germplasms …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

To investigate cold-induced autoinflammatory syndrome 1 (CIAS1) gene polymorphisms that cause autoinflammatory diseases in patients with nasal polyposis (NP). Materials and methods: The study included 30 patients diagnosed with NP and 30 healthy age-matched individuals as a control group. CIAS1 polymorphisms were assessed by DNA sequence analysis. Patients with nasal polyps and the control group were compared in terms of gene polymorphisms. Each of the 8 polymorphisms of the CIAS1 gene was analyzed separately in the patient group. Results: The most frequently observed polymorphisms in the patient group were c.732G > A in 83%, c.663C > T in 23%, and c.1308C > A …

Potential Genetic Biomarkers In The Early Diagnosisof Alzheimer Disease: Apoe And Bin1, Gülhan Kaya, Esra Gündüz, Muradi̇ye Acar, Ömer Faruk Hati̇poğlu, Burcu Acar, Ati̇lla İlhan, Mehmet Gündüz Jan 2015

Potential Genetic Biomarkers In The Early Diagnosisof Alzheimer Disease: Apoe And Bin1, Gülhan Kaya, Esra Gündüz, Muradi̇ye Acar, Ömer Faruk Hati̇poğlu, Burcu Acar, Ati̇lla İlhan, Mehmet Gündüz

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Alzheimer disease (AD) is triggered by interactions of multiple genetic and environmental factors. The APOE gene E4 allele is the best-known risk factor for AD, yet it represents a small ratio of genetic factors. According to genome-wide association studies, the BIN1 gene is the second important risk factor for AD, following the APOE gene. We aimed to identify a novel biomarker indicating susceptibility to AD by investigating APOE alleles and BIN1 gene polymorphisms in a Turkish population. Materials and methods: Fifty-three AD patients and 56 controls were included to examine polymorphism and allele frequency of the APOE and BIN1 …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Alzheimer disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of senile plaques composed of amyloid β-peptide, which is derived from β-amyloid precursor protein through degradation by β-secretase and γ-secretase complexes. One of the major components of γ-secretase complex, anterior pharynx-defective-1 (APH-1), is responsible for the activity of the γ-secretase complex. In this study, we searched for not only the most known common genetic risk factor, APOE, but also the APH-1a gene polymorphism in AD patients in a Turkish population. Materials and methods: In this study, 49 AD patients and 45 healthy controls were included. The genetic polymorphisms and allele frequencies …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: A number of genetic variants from different genes have been reported to be related to late-onset Alzheimer disease (LOAD) susceptibility. From these genes, polymorphisms in CLU and TLR2 have been replicated in several studies. In this study we examined the association of rs11136000 in CLU and the TLR2 -196 to -174 del polymorphism with the risk of LOAD in a northwestern Iranian population. Materials and methods: We conducted a case-control study with a dataset of 160 LOAD patients and 163 healthy controls. To examine polymorphisms of CLU and TLR2 in LOAD we used the PCR/RFLP method and genotype frequencies …
